A first-time owner buys an 80m Amels for spring 2029 delivery

The buyer is new, the product is not

Damen Yachting has confirmed the sale of an Amels 80 scheduled for delivery in spring 2029. The 80-metre yacht measures 2,175 GT and accommodates 14 guests, with exterior styling by Espen Oino and naval architecture by the yard itself. It is the largest model in Amels Limited Editions, the semi-custom line the Dutch group has built its order book on.

The owner was represented by Boatsters Black and Bjorn International Brokerage. Nick Gelevert, chief executive and founder of Boatsters Black, said the choice of shipyard carried real significance because this is the owner's first yacht. Kasper Jakobsen of Bjorn International Brokerage pointed to a proven build philosophy and a clear delivery programme as the deciding factors.

Why a first yacht at 80 metres is the story

The conventional path is a 30-metre production boat, then a 50, then a full custom build years later. This buyer skipped all of it. Limited Editions exists to make that jump possible: the platform, the engineering and the handover date are fixed in advance, and the customisation sits on top of them.

For anyone weighing a first build, the read-across is about risk. A first-time owner who wants certainty on price and handover is buying a known hull instead of a blank sheet, and the yard is selling that certainty as the product itself.

Spring 2029 is what an 80-metre slot costs in time

The delivery date sits three years out from contract. Damen Yachting has delivered the first three units of the series, and the most recent left Vlissingen in July for a maiden season heading to the UK, the Baltic and the Norwegian fjords.

Owners looking at the same size bracket should read the date as carefully as the price. A 2029 handover on a semi-custom platform is the quick route to 80 metres. A full custom order placed this summer generally lands later still.
