The fastest big aluminium yacht afloat

Genesis started life as Project Cosmos and was delivered under her new name in August 2023. Heesen presents her as the world's largest and fastest all-aluminium motor yacht driven by conventional propellers. At 80.07 metres and around 1,700 GT she is the yard's flagship by a clear margin. The record claim rests on holding 29 knots at a size where most yachts have long since slowed down.

She is the summit of everything Heesen learned on smaller fast hulls. Taking the aluminium and FDHF approach to 80 metres demanded fresh engineering, and the yard delivered it. Genesis reset expectations of what a Dutch aluminium yacht could be at flagship scale. For Heesen she is both a technical high point and a calling card. That standing has held since her 2023 delivery.

Nineteen thousand horsepower on aluminium

Genesis carries a Van Oossanen FDHF hull built entirely in aluminium to keep her light at 80 metres. Four MTU 20V 4000 M73 diesels supply roughly 19,000 hp between them, which is what it takes to move a yacht this size at 29 knots. The FDHF keeps resistance in check so that power translates into real speed rather than just fuel burn. The result is a genuine record for conventional-propeller aluminium yachts. Four engines of that output are unusual on an aluminium hull of any size.

Making a hull this long both light and stiff was the central problem. The yard answered it with a patented full-length reinforcement it calls the Backbone, which gives the structure its longitudinal strength. Without that spine the aluminium hull could not carry the loads that speed and length impose. The Backbone is the quiet engineering behind the headline figure. Heesen patented that spine rather than keep it a trade secret.

Winch Design at flagship scale

Winch Design styled the exterior, keeping the muscular Heesen character while stretching it across 80 metres. The profile is long and assured, with the volume handled so the yacht never looks slab-sided. Sweeping glass and a strong sheerline give her presence in any anchorage. The styling holds the yard's sporting character at a size that could easily have looked heavy. Stretching the Heesen look to 80 metres without bulk was no small task for the studio.

The deck amenity matches the ambition of the platform. A certified helideck sits on the bow above a garage that holds a Winch-designed custom limousine tender. A seven-metre pool aft runs contra-jets for swimming and adds a waterfall over a glass bottom. Space of this order is what 1,700 tons makes possible. A beach club with a sunken walk-around bar brings guests down to the water aft.

Sinot inside the flagship

Sinot Yacht Architecture and Design created the interior, their third project with Heesen. Genesis sleeps twelve guests across a main-deck owner's suite, a bridge-deck VIP and four lower-deck cabins, with room for a crew of nineteen. The design uses the vast volume for calm, open spaces rather than sheer spectacle. A crystal elevator links the lower deck up to the sun deck for easy movement. That lift is one of several touches aimed at moving easily through the decks.

The interior leans on light and flow across its many decks. Natural materials and restrained tones keep the mood serene despite the yacht's power. The helideck doubles as an outdoor cinema, turning the foredeck into an evening venue. Every space is scaled to a yacht where volume is almost limitless. Sinot's third Heesen interior reads as calm despite the yacht's outright power.

A record built to be used

The engineering headline is the four-engine driveline and the Backbone that lets an aluminium hull carry it at 80 metres. Genesis runs conventional propellers rather than a hybrid or exotic drive, which keeps the record honest and the boat straightforward to operate. Everything aboard is scaled for a flagship that is meant to be run hard and often. The systems reflect years of Heesen fast-hull experience. Keeping to proven propellers rather than an experimental drive protects both the record and the running costs.

Genesis suits an owner who wants the biggest and fastest aluminium yacht available and the amenity of a full flagship with it. He is buying a genuine record alongside a helideck and a pool few yachts of any size can match. This is a yacht for a buyer who will not choose between size and speed. Genesis is Heesen's answer to that owner. She closes the gap between a record chaser and a fully equipped flagship.

Who it is for: An owner determined to have the largest and fastest all-aluminium yacht going, who wants full flagship amenity such as a helideck and a large pool, and who will run a high-power conventional driveline hard.
