A giant that keeps its poise

Luminance belongs to the small group of yachts that pass the 138-metre mark, a length that puts her firmly among the largest in the world. Delivered in January 2024 at 9,861 GT, she offers the interior volume of a small ship while keeping the proportions of a yacht. Her significance lies in that balance of scale and elegance. Very few vessels this large manage to look so composed.

She was launched in early 2023 and delivered the following January after sea trials, a relatively brisk finish for a yacht of her size. Her arrival added another vessel to Lurssen's remarkable run of very large deliveries in the mid-2020s. In a fleet of giants she holds her own on both size and quality. Names like Espen Oeino and Zuretti do not attach themselves to ordinary projects, and their presence signals the level she was built to reach. That consistency at the top end is exactly what the yard is known for.

The exterior

The exterior came from Espen Oeino, the Monaco-based naval architect and designer responsible for many of the world's largest yachts. On Luminance he produced a profile that carries her considerable mass with grace, spread across multiple decks with a beam of around twenty metres. The lines are modern and clean without straining for effect. She looks purposeful and calm at anchor.

The wide beam gives generous floor plates for the interior and for open deck living. Built with a steel hull, an aluminium superstructure and teak decks, she has the structure expected of a serious ocean yacht. The exterior spaces are sized for a large owner's party and its guests. The design reads as confident rather than flashy.

The interior

Inside, the long-established Zuretti Design studio created the interior across her many decks. The studio is known for refined, classic work, and the yacht's scale gave it enormous volume to shape. Reported amenities include a beauty salon, a gym, a beach club and a deck jacuzzi. An elevator links the decks, which matters on a vessel of this height. The spaces were designed for comfort over long periods at sea.

The engineering underneath is standard Lurssen at this scale, prioritising quiet and reliable operation. She reaches a top speed of around twenty knots with a cruising speed near fifteen, driven through her steel hull. Systems are sized for autonomy and long-range cruising. The technical work supports a vessel meant to travel widely in comfort.

Space to spare

Luminance can accommodate up to forty guests in twenty staterooms, a very high count that reflects her volume. A crew of around twenty-four looks after the ship and its guests. The high guest capacity makes her well suited to hosting large groups, whether family or invited parties. Her interior volume allows generous private and shared spaces alike.

The beach club and pool areas open the ship to the water, while interior lounges and the salon provide refuge in any weather. With so much room, the yacht can absorb a large party without feeling crowded. The experience is one of space and calm rather than constant spectacle. Owners at this scale tend to value that sense of room above almost anything else. She was built for extended, comfortable cruising.

A quietly reported owner

Luminance has been reported in the yachting press and elsewhere as belonging to Rinat Akhmetov, long regarded as the wealthiest businessman in Ukraine. That attribution is reported rather than confirmed, and it should be treated with the usual caution that applies to all large-yacht ownership. Lurssen, as ever, does not comment on who its clients are. The identification rests on outside reporting alone.

In market terms Luminance is a blue-chip asset by virtue of her builder, her size and her design pedigree. Yachts above 130 metres form an exclusive class whose values tend to hold well. Her combination of respected designers and Lurssen engineering places her among the most desirable large yachts of her generation. For any future buyer she would represent a rare opportunity at the very top of the market.
