90R

The Ocean Alexander 90R Revolution is a 90 foot, 27.43 metre semi-planing motor yacht that launched in 2018 as the first model in the builder's Revolution series, a deliberate break from Ocean Alexander's traditional flybridge look. Designed by Evan K. Marshall with naval architecture from Arrabito Naval Architects, it introduced the yard's first true beach club outside its 120 foot Megayacht and a full-beam, glass-walled owner's suite forward on the main deck. Nine hulls were built through 2022 before the Revolution series moved on to newer hull numbers, and it remains an actively traded entry point into Ocean Alexander's newer design language on the used market.

The Boat That Broke Ocean Alexander's Own Formula

Evan K. Marshall, who had already drawn the 100 Motoryacht for Ocean Alexander, took on both the exterior and interior of the 90R, and described the brief to Boat International's Cecile Gauert in June 2019 as a penthouse-on-the-sea effect: very open, lots of glass, lots of light. The furniture followed the same logic. Marshall moved away from built-in joinery toward free-standing pieces set at angles, which he said required using oak veneer cut across the grain in ways that are genuinely difficult to execute in a boat interior, not just a styling flourish for a boat show stand. Allender, describing the same project, put it more bluntly: younger buyers want more speed, they are not always sure why, and the European yards had been selling on speed for years while Ocean Alexander had not.

The hull followed the same break with tradition. Giuseppe Arrabito of Arrabito Naval Architects told Boat International the 90R's monohedron semi-planing hull form, developed specifically for Ocean Alexander, was built to deliver strong performance despite a hull with significant height above the waterline, a direct answer to a boat carrying three decks of glass rather than a low-slung sportsyacht profile. Florida brokerage Romeo United Yachts puts total production at nine hulls delivered between 2018 and 2022, including the early Golden Eye, profiled by Boat International at the 2019 Fort Lauderdale show, before Ocean Alexander moved the Revolution series on to newer hull numbers.

Three Engine Tiers, Two Brands on the Water

YachtBuyer's technical specification pages for the 90R Open list twin MTU 10V2000 M96L diesels at 1,600hp each as standard, good for a 21-knot top speed and an 18.5-knot cruise; a mid option of twin MTU 12V2000 at 1,920hp each for 24 knots; and a top-tier twin MTU 16V2000 at 2,600hp each for a 27-knot maximum, all through 3,000 US gallons of fuel.

Real hulls tested on the water back up the upper half of that ladder more consistently than the spec sheets agree with each other on engine identity. Power & Motoryacht's Louisa Beckett tested hull No. 1 in March 2019 and recorded 25-plus knots at wide open throttle at 70.5 decibels, though the magazine's own spec box names the engines as 1,600hp MTU 16V2000s, a horsepower figure that actually matches the smaller standard 10V2000 rather than the larger unit it names, an inconsistency this research could not resolve. Yachting Magazine's Tom Serio, sea-trialling a separate Open Bridge hull in January 2020, recorded twin 1,900hp MAN V-12 2000 diesels rather than MTU power at all, with a tested range of 407 nautical miles at 25.1 knots burning 185 gallons per hour, stretching to 1,100 nautical miles at a 9.9-knot cruise burning 27 gallons per hour. Two independent, named sea trials of two different hulls, on two different engine brands, both landed in the same mid-20s-knot band, which tells a buyer more about what to expect on the water than any single spec sheet.

Ocean Alexander built the 90R to break its own formula, and two independent sea trials on two different hulls, one running MTU diesels and one running MAN, both landed in the same mid-20s-knot band regardless of which factory spec sheet a buyer reads.

An Axe Bow Built to Carry Three Decks of Glass

Yachting Magazine's Tom Serio credits the wave-piercing bow design for cutting resistance, and Arrabito's own description to Boat International is specific: the monohedron hull form was the yard's latest research aimed at strong performance even with, in his words, very significant height above the waterline, which is naval-architect language for a boat that looks like a 90-foot flybridge yacht but carries the windage and topside weight of something closer to a small superyacht.

BoatTest's trial, run in 98-degree heat with a 10 to 15mph wind and five people aboard, recorded 25.6mph (22.2 knots) at 2,450rpm with the 2,000hp MTU 12V2000 engines fitted, burning 192 gallons per hour at that speed, and a more efficient 12.6mph cruise at 1,250rpm burning 32 gallons per hour. BoatTest's own account does not describe a genuine rough-water sea state the way its trial of the smaller Ocean Alexander 100 did, so independent confirmation of how the 90R's hull behaves in a real chop is thinner than it is for some of the yard's other models; a buyer weighing sea-keeping specifically should ask a broker for a trial in a proper sea rather than rely on a flat-water test alone.

A Beach Club and a Full-Beam Owner's Suite Forward

Power & Motoryacht's Louisa Beckett called the beach club a genuine first for this size class at Ocean Alexander, quoting designer Evan K. Marshall directly: in this size yacht, he said, he does not think anyone else has a beach club like this. It opens onto the water through sliding glass transom doors and carries a sofa, wet bar and TV, and sits beneath the aft deck rather than replacing cockpit space. Forward and up one deck, the full-beam owner's suite carries twin penthouse-style armchairs and the same floor-to-ceiling glazing that defines the rest of the boat, with windows up to 2.8 by 1.4 metres, according to Boat International, large enough that Ocean Alexander needed UV-treated glass to control heat gain.

Below, Yachting Magazine's Tom Serio describes a forward VIP stateroom on the lower deck that rivals the master cabins on some other yachts, alongside two further guest cabins that convert between twin and queen configurations, for a standard 8 to 10 guests across 4 to 5 staterooms depending on how the amidships cabins are configured. Crew are quartered aft, with a captain's cabin and two further cabins sharing arrangements similar to the yard's larger 100 Motoryacht, built around running the boat with up to three crew rather than the four to five the bigger 100 needs.

A Thin, Fast-Moving Resale Market

BoatTest's spec sheet for its tested hull, fitted with the 2,000hp MTU 12V2000 upgrade and the optional SidePower hydraulic stabiliser package at 210,000 dollars on its own, lists a retail price of 8,250,000 dollars, the closest this research found to an official new-build figure. YachtBuyer's own sold-listing data shows three recent transactions: a 2019 hull sold in December 2024 at 8 million dollars, a 2020 hull sold in November 2024 at 7 million dollars, and a second 2019 hull sold in October 2024 at 7.7 million dollars.

Florida brokerage Romeo United Yachts lists a preowned 90R named Pinch Me from 7,999,000 dollars as this was researched, in line with that same band. With only nine hulls built across a four-year run, per Romeo United, the 90R never built up the kind of deep, generation-spanning resale pool that Ocean Alexander's own 100 Motoryacht has; a buyer should expect a shorter list of boats to choose from and be ready to move when one in the right configuration comes up, rather than shop patiently across dozens of listings the way a 100 buyer can.

Engines and systems

EnginesStandard twin MTU 10V2000 M96L diesels, 1,600hp each (21-knot top speed); optional twin MTU 12V2000 at 1,920hp each (24 knots) or twin MTU 16V2000 at 2,600hp each (27 knots), per YachtBuyer's published spec sheet. Hull and constructionSemi-planing monohedron GRP hull with a wave-piercing axe bow, developed by Arrabito Naval Architects specifically for the 90R's height above the waterline, per Boat International and Yachting Magazine.
Generators/stabilisers/thrusters/tankageKohler 55kW generator on vibration-dampening mounts; optional SidePower hydraulic stabiliser package (listed separately at USD 210,000 by BoatTest); 55hp bow thruster and 40hp stern thruster; Sea Recovery watermaker rated at 1,400 US gallons (5,300 litres) per day; all per BoatTest's published spec sheet.

What owners and crew report

Practical detail

PriceNo confirmed factory base price found. BoatTest's spec sheet for its tested, upgraded-engine configuration lists a retail price of USD 8,250,000. Recent resales (per YachtBuyer) closed at USD 7.0-8.0 million between October and December 2024, and Romeo United Yachts lists a preowned example, Pinch Me, from USD 7,999,000.
Running costBoatTest recorded 192 gallons per hour at a 22.2-knot (2,450rpm) top speed with the mid-tier MTU 12V2000 engines, dropping to 32 gallons per hour at a 12.6-knot (1,250rpm) economical cruise. Yachting Magazine's separately tested hull burned 185 gallons per hour at 25.1 knots and 27 gallons per hour at a 9.9-knot cruise.
Where it is builtOcean Alexander's shipyard in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the same facility that builds the rest of the current range.
Comparable used marketA small pool: nine hulls built 2018-2022 per Romeo United Yachts, versus dozens of hulls across three generations for Ocean Alexander's own 100 Motoryacht, so fewer boats to compare on the resale market at any one time.
What is NOT publishedOcean Alexander has not published a single confirmed factory base price for the 90R, nor a definitive engine-brand assignment by hull number; this research found genuine, unresolved conflicts on both points across otherwise reputable named sources.
