The follow-up to a five-hull hit
The S501 was the yacht that turned Tankoa from a promising name into a commercial success. Vertige arrived in 2017, and the 50 metre series ran to five hulls before closing with Grey in 2023, an exceptional score for a boutique yard in a segment where most semi-custom lines stall at two. Those five owners, and the strong brokerage record of the boats since, are the S520's real pedigree.
Tankoa describes the new model as a reinvention that keeps the S501's winning proportions and sporty character while growing longer and more imposing. The stretch to 52 metres is spent almost entirely on lifestyle space, because the philosophy underneath is unchanged, an all-aluminium, sub-500 GT yacht that delivers big-boat presence with a lighter regulatory and manning footprint.
Paszkowski and Casprini, again
Francesco Paszkowski has drawn for Tankoa since the 69 metre Suerte, and for the S520 he works again with Margherita Casprini on the interior, the same pairing behind the 58 metre Diamond Binta delivered in 2024. The show renderings wear a gun-metal grey livery over long, low lines, sporting without aggression, and the family resemblance to the S501 is deliberate and close.
The published platform runs to 52.00 metres overall on an 8.94 metre beam, with a full-load draught of about 2.25 metres, maximum displacement around 420 tons and gross tonnage of approximately 499 GT. Hull and superstructure are aluminium throughout, the material Tankoa reserves for its fastest, lightest designs, and the structure follows the engineering standards of the larger steel fleet.
A porthole in the beach club looks through the wall of the infinity pool, swimmers on one side, sofas on the other.
A beach club on two levels
The signature move is aft, where the stern opens into a multi-level beach club served by two fold-down side platforms. Generous glazing pulls light into the space, including a porthole that looks through into the aft infinity pool, so swimmers and loungers share a wall of water. The main deck cockpit above connects directly to the pool lounge, turning the whole stern into one continuous social zone stepping down to the sea.
The rest of the exterior follows the same logic. The sun deck grows longer and wider than the S501's, with an infinity pool of its own aft, the upper deck adds an extended skylounge and entertaining space, and the foredeck absorbs the working clutter with an integrated tender crane. Even the gangway conceals itself within the aft platform when not in use, keeping the profile clean at anchor.
More air inside the same tonnage
Inside, the S520 answers the most common request owners made of the S501, more volume overhead. Ceilings rise and windows grow across the main spaces, and the owner's suite expands into a genuine apartment with a private lounge, a study, a walk-in wardrobe and a vanity area. The published arrangement sleeps twelve guests in six staterooms across three decks.
Casprini's interior scheme for the show model works in soft, rounded shapes and a grey-toned palette, calm and contemporary, though as with every Tankoa the styling is the first hull's choice, not the series' fate. The semi-custom platform leaves layout and finishes open, and the yard's record with the S501 line shows how differently five owners can dress the same bones.
Sensible numbers and a 2028 slot
Published figures for the S520 show a top speed of about 16 knots with cruising at 15, and a range in the region of 3,750 nautical miles from 55,000 litres of fuel, numbers sized for Mediterranean seasons with an Atlantic reposition in reach. The aluminium construction keeps the power requirement modest for the volume, which pays off every year in fuel and maintenance.
The first hull is offered for sale with delivery due in 2028, giving the buyer first-hull privileges over layout and finish while the engineering rides on the proven S501 lineage. In Tankoa's range the S520 sits beside the T55 Sportiva as the second sub-500 GT choice, the Paszkowski classicist to the Sportiva's Dini athlete, and the pick between them is honestly a matter of taste.
Who it is for: The owner who watched the S501 series succeed five times over and wants the modernised version, with more headroom, a bigger beach club and a first-hull slot still open.
Guide price: Brokerage listings for the first hull, with delivery due in 2028, have quoted asking prices around EUR 37 million, subject to specification and negotiation.
