SD132

The SD132 is the flagship of Sanlorenzo's semi-displacement line and, at just over forty metres, one of the largest composite yachts the yard builds. It pairs the long range and easy motion of a displacement hull with more volume and a lighter build than a metal superyacht. It is the point where the Yacht Division reaches towards superyacht territory.

The composite flagship

The SD132 tops the SD family, Sanlorenzo's semi-displacement range, and it does so in fibreglass rather than metal. That matters, because a composite hull of this size keeps the yacht within the Yacht Division and the building methods the yard knows best. At 40.7 metres and around 420 GT, it offers superyacht volume without moving to steel or aluminium. Both exterior and interior are the work of Zuccon International Project.

For buyers, the appeal is a large, comfortable long-range yacht that still feels like a Sanlorenzo rather than a scaled-up commercial platform. The SD line has long been the yard's answer for owners who want distance and sea-keeping over speed. The SD132 gives that thinking its biggest expression to date. It also lets an owner reach superyacht volume while keeping the lighter build and lower running weight of composite construction.

Semi-displacement, explained

A semi-displacement hull sits between two extremes. A planing boat like the SL climbs onto its own bow wave and runs fast but burns fuel to do it, while a full displacement hull pushes through the water at slow, steady speed with great efficiency. The SD132 is tuned towards the displacement end, which is why its economical cruise and range are its headline qualities. It trades outright pace for comfort and distance.

The layout also borrows from the asymmetric thinking seen elsewhere in the fleet, using the deck arrangement to widen interior volumes. The naval architecture favours a soft, stable motion in a seaway, which is what long-distance owners ask for. It is a hull built to cross oceans in comfort rather than to impress at the dock. The trade-off is a top speed well below that of a planing boat, which owners of this type accept willingly.

The SD132 is measured by where it can go, not how fast it gets there.

Space for twelve

The SD132 accommodates up to twelve guests, arranged across five cabins with additional pullman berths, and it carries a crew of eight. That guest count is at the upper limit for private use and reflects the volume on offer. The interiors follow Zuccon's architectural approach, with generous ceiling heights and large windows that suit the slow, panoramic style of cruising the boat is built for. Owners can tailor the arrangement to their own needs.

With around 420 GT to work with, the designers have been able to give the main deck and the lower guest areas real breadth. The extra volume shows in the size of the shared spaces rather than in a longer count of small rooms. It is a yacht meant for extended time aboard with family and guests together.

Built for distance

Power comes from twin MAN V12 engines of about 1,650 hp, with a CAT C32 option also offered. The reported top speed is around 17 knots, in keeping with the semi-displacement character. The important figure is range, given as roughly 3,200 nautical miles at an economical 11 knots. That is genuine transatlantic capability from a composite yacht.

Large fuel and water tanks, reported at around 42,000 and 8,000 litres, support long passages without frequent stops. The engineering choices are deliberately conservative and proven, which suits owners planning real distance cruising. The SD132 is designed to be reliable far from home rather than fast close to it.

Who the SD132 suits

The SD132 is for the owner who measures a yacht by where it can take them rather than by how quickly. It suits long seasons and ocean crossings, with room aboard for a full complement of guests and crew. Its composite construction keeps it in the Sanlorenzo family for owners who value that lineage. It offers a step into superyacht scale without the cost and complexity of a metal build.

In the market it sits against other semi-displacement and long-range yachts in the low forties. Its argument is generous volume and real range delivered in a fibreglass package that still carries the yard's design signature. For an owner ready for their most capable Sanlorenzo yet, it is the top of the composite range.
