A EUR 3.5m charter week just repriced every green-fuel yacht
A record without seasons
YachtCharterFleet's published rate card puts the 118.8-metre Breakthrough at EUR 3,500,000 a week plus expenses, and the figure does not move between summer and winter. The same outlet's ranking of the most expensive charter yachts, updated in March 2026, lists her first, ahead of Renaissance at EUR 3,000,000 and Kismet at USD 3,000,000. The nearest rate on the list sits half a million euros a week behind her.
The seasonal detail deserves more attention than the headline number. Discounting the shoulder months is how the charter market concedes soft demand, and this rate holds flat from October through April. A November week aboard costs exactly what a July week costs.
Charter as price discovery
Kismet, at 122 metres, is a longer boat with a famous name, and she lists below Breakthrough at any exchange rate you care to apply. The gap is not a length premium - it prices the machinery. Per BOAT International, Breakthrough carries a 3.2-megawatt fuel cell system built by PowerCell of Sweden, fed by four tonnes of liquid hydrogen held at minus 253 degrees Celsius, and she can lie at anchor silent and emission-free for up to a week.
The market has already priced that plant once. BOAT International reported the September 2025 in-house sale at Edmiston as the most significant brokerage deal in history, and YachtCharterFleet identified the buyer as a Canadian entrepreneur who put her straight to work. The first hydrogen superyacht changed hands at a record and now earns at one.
The resale arithmetic
For a buyer specifying a new build, the standing objection to hydrogen or methanol has been residual value - unproven machinery, a thin pool of onward buyers. Breakthrough answers with numbers a broker can print. Delivered in May 2025 as the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands, per YachtCharterFleet, she was sold within four months and now holds the highest published charter rate afloat.
The premium also maps onto how owners actually use these boats. BOAT International notes that hotel load, the power a yacht burns at anchor, accounts for 70 to 78 per cent of annual energy use, and that is precisely the load the fuel cells carry. When the next green-fuel flagship comes up for valuation, the comparable on the broker's desk is a EUR 3.5 million week.
