When Moonrise was delivered in 2020 she claimed a notable distinction, standing as the longest yacht by waterline length ever built in the Netherlands at the time. At 99.95 metres she stops just short of the symbolic hundred-metre mark, a choice that keeps her within certain regulatory and berthing thresholds. She was constructed at the De Vries facility in Makkum and gathered a shelf of awards after launch. Her gross tonnage of around 3,945 GT confirms a yacht of serious internal volume.

Her reputation rests as much on refinement as on size. The yard poured unusual effort into noise and vibration control, and describes her as quiet even by its own demanding standards. At the 2021 World Superyacht Awards she took the prize in the category for displacement motor yachts of 3,000 GT and above. That recognition placed her among the finest large yachts of her generation. For many observers she set the template that Feadship would later refine in her own 101-metre successor.

Studio De Voogt and a clean silhouette

The exterior styling is by Studio De Voogt, the in-house design arm that has shaped a large share of the Feadship fleet. Moonrise wears a calm, contemporary profile marked by a near-vertical bow and a grey and snow-white colour scheme that has become something of a signature. The lines are long and low for a yacht of this height, which helps her carry nearly 100 metres without appearing top-heavy. Large areas of glass bring daylight deep into the interior and open long views from the main decks.

Outdoor living is central to how she is arranged. Moonrise carries generous deck areas on several levels, including a beach club that brings guests down close to the waterline. A helipad allows direct access in remote cruising grounds, extending her reach well beyond the marina. Sun decks and shaded terraces give a range of settings for different times of day and weather. The exterior spaces are laid out to serve a small guest group in comfort rather than to pack in numbers.

Remi Tessier and the pursuit of calm

Inside, Moonrise is the work of French designer Remi Tessier, known for a restrained and precise style built on fine materials and careful proportion. The yacht accommodates up to 16 guests across eight staterooms, a comparatively low count for her volume that translates into unusually spacious cabins and social rooms. Tessier's approach favours clean surfaces and quiet luxury over ornament, letting craftsmanship and material quality carry the interior. The result reads as serene and residential, in keeping with the yacht's overall character.

The defining quality of the interior is silence. Feadship engineered Moonrise so that guests are barely aware of the machinery running beneath them, which supports the restful mood the design sets out to create. Wellness spaces, a beach club and generous lounging areas give the yacht the feel of a private retreat afloat. A crew of around 32 supports the guest experience without intruding on it. This is a yacht built for owners who value peace above spectacle.

Quiet running by design

Moonrise is powered by twin MTU engines, giving a maximum speed of 19.5 knots and a comfortable cruise near 16 knots. Her reported range of 8,184 nautical miles at 16 knots allows long ocean passages between fuelling stops. The headline engineering story, though, is acoustic. Feadship applied extensive noise and vibration attenuation throughout the vessel, isolating machinery and treating structures to keep sound levels remarkably low. That work is invisible to the eye yet defines the experience of being aboard.

Achieving that quiet on a 99.95-metre hull is a considerable technical feat. It calls for careful mounting of engines and generators, attention to the paths that sound and vibration travel through the structure, and a hull form that moves cleanly through the water. The near-100-metre length also gives a steady, comfortable ride in open water. Systems are arranged for long autonomy, reflecting a yacht intended to spend extended periods away from port. Reliability at this scale is treated as a baseline requirement.

From private commission to record sale

Moonrise has been reported as the yacht of WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum, who is said to have commissioned her around 2017 for a figure widely quoted near 220 million US dollars. Feadship has never confirmed her ownership, in line with its long practice of client confidentiality. What is on record is her exceptional build and her later appearance on the brokerage market. She was listed for the first time since delivery, carrying an asking price of 325 million euros. The listing drew intense attention across the industry.

Her sale in 2026 ranked among the largest brokerage transactions the market has seen. The move followed the delivery of a larger successor, a 101-metre Feadship also named Moonrise that shares her design language and pushes it further. Yachts of this calibre change hands rarely, and each sale is closely watched as a gauge of demand at the very top of the market. The strong interest in Moonrise underlined how few vessels of her quality exist. For Feadship, her second life on the market was a fresh advertisement for the durability of its work.
