The biggest steel Heesen yet
Sparta is the largest steel displacement yacht Heesen has ever built, delivered in 2024 as a full-custom Pure Custom project. Where the series boats start on the yard's account, Sparta began as a blank sheet shaped entirely around one owner. At 67 metres and roughly 1,200 GT she is a true flagship of the yard's craft in steel. She went on to collect major industry awards in her delivery year. Those honours came from the World Superyacht Awards and the International Superyacht Society for 2024.
A full-custom brief lets an owner chase ideas a series hull cannot reach. Sparta's owner asked for playfulness and surprise, and the whole yacht is organised around that request. The result stands apart from the fast aluminium boats that made Heesen's name. It shows the yard can deliver a large, characterful steel yacht as convincingly as a speed machine. It is the clearest sign yet that Heesen's Pure Custom arm can match the yard's fast-hull reputation.
Steel, volume and an easy gait
Sparta is a displacement yacht built for comfort more than speed, and her numbers reflect that choice. Twin MTU 12V 4000 M65R diesels of about 1,800 hp each give her a 16 knot top speed and a relaxed 12 knot cruise. Steel construction adds weight and strength, which suits a yacht meant to cross oceans in settled fashion. This is a different brief from the yard's aluminium sprinters. Twin diesels of that size are chosen for reliability at sea more than for outright pace.
What steel buys is volume and range. Fuel tankage of 140,000 litres supports about 4,500 nautical miles, enough for long ocean legs between destinations. The hull sits deep and planted, so the ride stays calm when the weather turns. For an owner who measures a yacht by how it feels in a swell, that steadiness is the whole argument. The deep steel hull gives her the reserve buoyancy that long crossings ask for.

Winch Design outside
Winch Design drew Sparta's exterior, giving her a muscular yet elegant profile that still reads as a Heesen. The volume is used generously across the decks, with a layout that puts the owner high up on the bridge deck. From there the pair of owner's suites open onto private dining and al fresco space. The styling carries presence without tipping into excess. Placing the owner high on the bridge deck is a hallmark of the full-custom brief.
Deck life was central to the brief. There is room for serious toys and tenders alongside broad social areas, and the exterior flows down toward the water aft. Shaded and open zones are balanced so guests can spread out across the yacht. Every deck was planned around the owner's wish for activity and surprise. Broad aft deck space brings guests close to the water when the yacht is at rest.
Elements as a design language
Winch Design also created the interior, themed deck by deck around the rising elements, from earth low down to air up top. That idea gives each level its own palette and mood while keeping the whole yacht coherent. Accommodation covers a pair of full-beam owner's suites plus VIP and guest cabins for twelve guests. The detailing is rich and playful in line with the brief. Two full-beam owner's suites is an unusual luxury even at this length.
The elemental theme is more than a colour story. Textures and artworks shift on the way up through the decks, so the journey through the yacht has a narrative to it. Volume from the 1,200 ton hull lets the designers stage large, generous rooms. The interior earned Sparta industry recognition for its craft in her first year. Award juries singled out that work when she collected her 2024 honours.
Full custom, built to last
Mechanically Sparta is a conventional twin-diesel displacement yacht, engineered for reliability on long remote passages. Zero-speed stabilisers hold her steady at anchor, which matters for a yacht built around comfort. She carries Lloyd's classification and the systems depth expected of a vessel this size. The engineering serves the owner's brief rather than any performance headline. The Naiad zero-speed fins are a meaningful comfort feature for time spent at anchor.
Sparta suits an owner who wants a one-off yacht with genuine character and ocean-going ability. He was willing to invest the time a full-custom build demands to get exactly the yacht he imagined. Steel gives him the volume and the settled ride that long cruising rewards. For a buyer chasing individuality over speed, Sparta is the case for going fully custom. That willingness to wait is what separates a custom owner from a series buyer.
المحركات والأنظمة
| Engines | Twin MTU 12V 4000 M65R diesels. Power is reported two ways: 1,800 hp each on some listings versus 2 x 1,492 kW, roughly 2,000 hp, on Heesen's own official fleet page, a unit or rating discrepancy worth flagging rather than resolving. |
|---|---|
| Top speed | Conflict: 16 knots per Boat International and Heesen's own spec sheet as reflected on several listings, versus just under 18 knots per BoatTest, citing a combined 3 megawatt output. |
| Cruise speed | 12 knots is the figure most sources give; one listing gives a wider 12 to 14.6 knot range. |
| Range | Conflict: 4,500 nautical miles at 12 knots is the majority figure, versus 5,000 nautical miles cited by BoatTest and as an upper bound by another listing. |
| Fuel tankage | 140,000 litres, consistent across every source checked. |
| Fresh water | 25,000 litres, per Heesen's official spec page and a fleet listing. |
| Watermakers | Two units rated at 20,000 litres per day each, per one listing only, not corroborated on other sources checked, so treat as single sourced. |
| Stabilisers | Naiad Dynamics, two fins, type 820, with zero speed capability, per Heesen's official fleet page. |
| Bow thruster and generators | A ZF-Marine 175 kW electric bow thruster and two Zenoro generators at 240 kW each, both per Heesen's official fleet page. |
| Hull and naval architecture | Steel hull, aluminium superstructure, teak deck. Van Oossanen's Fast Displacement Hull Form, developed from the 2018 Project Avanti concept. |
| Tenders | A custom Winch designed Tenderworks limousine tender, reported around 8 metres, styled to echo the mothership's lines, stowed behind forward gullwing garage doors. |
| Pool, beach club and spa | A swimming pool reported at 6.5 by 2.4 metres with a Spartan helmet motif worked into the design, plus a sundeck jacuzzi. A roughly 65 square metre wellness area, described as Japanese inspired, houses an elliptical whirlpool, steam room, sauna, gym and beauty area. A glass elevator and the carved oak staircase connect the earth, water and air deck themes. |
ما يذكره الملاك والأطقم
The staircase design was built to physically connect the earth, water and air theme rather than separate it deck by deck
"The staircase is carved in three different ways to tie all of these elements into one, rather than letting them be seen in isolation. This is something fluid yet connected." He also called Sparta a floating home on the ocean.
Joost Roes, lead interior designer, Winch Design, quoted in BoatTest and on winchdesign.comThe carved oak staircase was hand built from raw timber, not machined panels
"We started literally with trees." "Every panel had to be shaped on the back face first, because the staircase is curved." He also described the coffee table as needing the feel of a large tree trunk, though it is actually built from many pieces of solid wood one to two inches thick.
Alex Hull, Hull Studio, staircase and joinery, quoted in BoatTestThe owner's brief was explicitly for a soft, child friendly, informal interior rather than a classical wellness aesthetic
On the spa and wellness styling: "It's not feng shui. The client liked soft details and safe design suitable for kids." She also noted chair backs embossed with palm leaves, made in Brazil.
Julia Roestenberg, senior designer, Winch Design, quoted in BoatTestThe slender reverse bow hull was chosen for ride comfort, with an explicit engineering trade off
"We designed a slender hull to get more draught and less freeboard." On the reverse bow: "The bow is an aesthetic choice but delivers additional comfort for the passengers," with reduced acceleration in wavy conditions.
Peter van der Zanden, head of design and engineering, Heesen Yachts, quoted in BoatTest and Heesen's own project update pageThe interior design firm describes the owner as having given a clear, decisive brief
"Once again we are delighted to have a very collaborative and decisive client with a clear lifestyle brief." "The arrangement of the vessel seamlessly connects the activity of water side living at the aft terrace with the calm and beautifully coloured interior."
Jim Dixon, Director of Yachts, Winch Design, Heesen Yachts project announcement pageThe naval architect frames the hull form as giving above average speed and range for the engine size fitted
"With engines quite typical for a yacht this size, she will easily reach her contract speed and outrun other yachts of this size and power, both in speed and range."
Perry van Oossanen, naval architect, Van Oossanen Naval Architects, Heesen Yachts project announcement pageSparta is the fifth yacht the project management and brokerage firm Arcon Yachts has built with Heesen
"This is the fifth project we have built with Heesen. The mutual trust that has grown between us is particularly gratifying."

نقاط القوة
- The largest steel yacht Heesen has built, on a proven concept67 metres, 1,200 GT, steel hull with aluminium superstructure, developed from the Project Avanti concept Heesen and Winch first showed at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show, so the underlying naval architecture had years of development behind it before Sparta was cut.
- Award recognised interior and a genuinely differentiated design briefWon Best Interior Motor at the International Superyacht Society Awards, a Special Commendation at the World Superyacht Awards and was a finalist at Boat International's Design and Innovation Awards, for a deck by deck earth, water and air theme that is unusually cohesive rather than a generic layout.
- A purpose built hull form aimed at efficiency and range for the sizeVan Oossanen's Fast Displacement Hull Form plus zero speed Naiad stabilisers, a 140,000 litre fuel capacity and a bespoke Tenderworks limousine tender that echoes the mothership's lines, stored behind gullwing garage doors.
ما يستدعي الانتباه
- The original commissioning owner withdrew during the buildBoatTest reports Sparta was already for sale because the build owners had to back out. A yacht designed to one family's very specific playfulness and surprise brief, palm leaf embossed chairs, a solar system inlay headboard, a wave pattern carpet with a woven play island for children, was therefore marketed to a different buyer than the one it was designed for, a real resale consideration for such a personal interior.
- Steel construction is heavier than an equivalent aluminium build at this sizeDisplacement is reported around 1,050 tonnes at half load, a byproduct of the steel hull Heesen highlights as a first for it at this length. Steel buys strength and lower build cost per tonne but adds weight versus an aluminium yacht of similar length, part of why sources disagree on her top speed.
- Delivery and handover timeline is inconsistent across otherwise reputable sourcesOne build list gives 2023 as delivery year, award citations and most press roundups say 2024 and Boat International's dedicated delivery article, published in June 2025, states she has now been delivered to her owners. This is consistent with a build that changed hands, but a buyer or journalist should confirm the actual handover date directly with the yard or Arcon rather than trust any single database.
- Not confirmed available for charterTwo charter listing sites state charter availability is unknown or not currently offered, so there is no charter income data point to weigh against running costs.
- Running costs and current ownership are unpublishedNo source gives annual running cost, crew wage budget or the current confirmed owner's identity for a 67 metre, 1,200 GT yacht with a listed crew of 14 to 16. A buyer needs these figures independently from a broker or management company, not from public listings.

| Asking price | EUR 99,000,000 when first listed for sale around July 2023, while still under construction. A more recent listing shows an asking price around USD 111,822,458. Treat both as potentially stale and confirm the current figure directly with the broker. |
|---|---|
| Brokerage and sale history | Arcon Yachts handled both new build project management and now the sales brokerage, its fifth Heesen collaboration. BoatTest reports the original commissioning owners withdrew from the build, which is why a full custom yacht reached the open market. |
| Charter availability | Not confirmed for charter. Multiple listing sites explicitly state charter status is unknown or that she is not currently offered for charter, so no charter rate exists to report. |
| Delivery date | Disputed across sources: 2023 on one build list, 2024 in award citations and most press roundups and June 2025 per Boat International's dedicated delivery article, which quotes Heesen and Arcon at the actual handover. Verify independently before publishing a single date. |
| What is not published | Running and annual operating costs, current confirmed owner identity, current sale status, sold, under offer or still available and an official charter rate are not published in any source found. |
