Bravo Eugenia

Bravo Eugenia is a 109 metre Oceanco motor yacht delivered in 2018, and the first built around the yard's LIFE Design efficiency programme. Her hybrid propulsion was designed to cut fuel use sharply against yachts of similar size.

The first of a new efficiency line

Bravo Eugenia marked the debut of LIFE Design, an engineering programme Oceanco developed with Lateral Naval Architects and the Dutch institute MARIN. The name stands for lengthened waterline, innovative layout, fuel efficiency and ecological consciousness. Rather than a styling exercise, it set out to change how a large motor yacht moves through the water. That made her a working test bed for ideas the yard has carried into later projects.

As with most yachts at this level, the yard has not confirmed ownership, and she is named for a member of the owner's family rather than for anything to do with the boat.

Long lines from Nuvolari Lenard

The exterior styling came from the Italian studio Nuvolari Lenard, working over the LIFE Design hull. The lengthened waterline improves efficiency and gives her a long, level look on the water. Four decks rise above a 16.3 metre beam, with the styling kept calm rather than aggressive. The elongated hull is doing engineering work as much as it is setting the aesthetic.

Inside, the yacht was styled by Reymond Langton Design across an internal volume of roughly 3,400 GT. Accommodation supports around fourteen guests with a crew of about thirty. A teak deck runs over a steel hull and aluminium superstructure in the yard's usual manner. The layout places the owner's accommodation to make the most of the added length. The interior was fitted to a standard that press coverage has consistently described as lavish.

The first Oceanco with efficiency engineered into the shape of the hull itself.

Hybrid power and a reshaped hull

The core of Bravo Eugenia is what LIFE Design does below the waterline. A longer waterline and a hull refined with MARIN reduce the energy needed to push her along. Two MTU diesels are paired with a heat and energy recovery system and an integrated battery bank. Together they allow a quiet electric mode for low-speed running without the main engines.

The yard has said the package lets her use around thirty per cent less fuel than comparable yachts of her size. That figure depends on how she is operated, but the intent is a measurable cut rather than a token gesture. Her top speed is around 18 knots with a cruising speed near 14. The efficiency is built into the naval architecture rather than added as an option.

Space for family and guests

Bravo Eugenia is arranged for private family use rather than charter. Reported features include a range of leisure and entertaining spaces spread across her four decks. Accommodation for around fourteen guests keeps the yacht personal despite her length. Beach and pool areas at the stern give direct contact with the water when she lies at anchor. The quiet electric mode adds to the sense of calm when she is running slowly or at anchor.

The interior by Reymond Langton is finished to the standard expected at this level, with the lengthened hull giving generous room throughout. Two helicopter landing areas have been reported, which speaks to how the owner intends to move between the yacht and shore. Deck spaces are sized for gathering rather than display. The experience is closer to a private estate than a hotel.

An owner's yacht that changed a yard

Bravo Eugenia is a private yacht, used within one family and never offered for charter. For Oceanco she is more than that, since she introduced an approach the yard has continued to develop. LIFE Design gave the company a story about efficiency at a time when the industry was under pressure to reduce its footprint. That story has aged well as fuel and emissions have grown more prominent.

The yacht sits in a competitive part of the market where efficiency claims are scrutinised closely. What sets Bravo Eugenia apart is that her efficiency was engineered into the hull from the start. Later Oceanco projects have built on the same foundation. As the first LIFE Design yacht, she holds a specific place in the yard's history.
