A landmark in the Steel line
The 50Steel belongs to Sanlorenzo's Superyacht Division, the metal side of the yard that builds steel and aluminium yachts. At 50 metres and around 499 GT it is a full displacement superyacht, and it arrived in 2024 carrying two genuine firsts. It is the boat where the yard's long research into clean power and clever volume finally reached the water. Above it in the Steel line sits the larger 64Steel.
For Sanlorenzo, the 50Steel is the flagship of its sustainability programme, the Road to 2030. It shows the yard's argument to owners, that a superyacht can be both cleaner and more liveable through real engineering. The boat is built to individual order like the rest of the fleet. It stands as a statement of where Sanlorenzo intends to lead.

Design that opens up
The exterior is by Zuccon International Project, drawn with five gently staggered decks that give the 50Steel a balanced, elegant profile. The interior is by Piero Lissoni, the yard's art director, with the calm, hospitality-inspired style he brings across the fleet. The design is quiet and material-led, letting the sea and the light do the work. The whole boat reads as understated for its size.
The headline design move is the HER engine room, which lays the machinery out horizontally on a single level. That frees a whole extra level low in the hull, given over to an ocean lounge with a large aft beach club, a spa and a gym in one open space. The beach club opens to more than 135 square metres at the waterline. It turns the lower deck into a place to live right at the surface of the sea.

The first superyacht to run a green-methanol fuel cell, with a beach club where the engine room used to sit.

Living at the waterline
Inside, the 50Steel accommodates ten guests and carries a crew of nine. The freed lower level gives the boat a beach-club and wellness area of a size usually found on much larger yachts. Above, the main and upper decks follow Lissoni's restrained, residential language, with generous glazing and long sight lines. Owners can tailor the arrangement and finish closely within that framework.
The design is built around the connection between the interior and the sea, especially at the stern where the beach club opens on three sides. Time aboard is meant to be spent at the waterline as much as in the saloon. The volume is spent on shared, social spaces. It is a superyacht drawn around how a family actually uses the days at anchor.

The green-methanol fuel cell
The 50Steel is the world's first superyacht to carry a green-methanol reformer fuel cell, a patented system Sanlorenzo developed with Siemens Energy. The system draws hydrogen from green methanol and turns it into electricity, powering the yacht's hotel loads up to 100 kilowatts while the main engines and generators stay off. That means silent, emission-free time at anchor. It is the clearest proof yet of the yard's Road to 2030.
Under way, the boat is driven by twin MAN engines of around 1,066 kilowatts each, giving a top speed of about 16 knots in keeping with its displacement character. The fuel cell handles the quiet hours at rest, cutting reliance on the generators. The engineering is a genuine first for the sector, proven on a boat that reached the water in 2024. It gives the 50Steel a real head start on emissions.

Who the 50Steel suits
The 50Steel suits the owner ready to step into a full steel superyacht who wants both a landmark clean-power system and a reordered interior that opens the lower deck to the sea. It appeals to buyers who value being first with real technology as much as space and finish. Its beach-club and wellness volume suits families who live at the waterline. For a long-standing Sanlorenzo owner, it is the move into the metal ranges with a conscience.
In the market it stands apart, since no rival offers a green-methanol fuel cell at this size. That distinction is central to its appeal. For an owner who wants a superyacht that points to the future, the 50Steel answers directly. It carries the yard's clearest environmental statement to the water.
المحركات والأنظمة
| Engines | Two MAN D2862-LE489 diesels rated at 1,066 kW (1,450 hp) each, giving a 16-knot top speed, per itBoat and BOAT International's superyacht directory. |
|---|---|
| Methanol fuel cell | Sanlorenzo's own fleet page describes the 50Steel as the world's first superyacht carrying a green-methanol fuel-cell system, converting methanol into hydrogen and then electricity to power hotel loads of up to 100 kW with the main engines and generators shut down. No independent third party has yet verified real-world runtime on this system. |
| Fuel tankage | 55,000 litres, per Sanlorenzo's own specification page. |
| Range and cruise speed | Reported at 4,000 nautical miles at an 11-knot cruise, with a 12.5-knot cruising speed also cited; this figure comes from a single aggregator (itBoat) and has not been independently corroborated, so treat it as reported rather than confirmed. |
| Generators, stabilisers, thrusters, watermaker | Not published by any source found. Sanlorenzo's own fleet page and the brokerage aggregators covering this hull are silent on all four. |
ما يذكره الملاك والأطقم
No independently attributable owner or crew account exists yet
The 50Steel is a first-of-class hull with 2026 deliveries; no owner, captain or crew report has surfaced in the sources checked. That is expected for a boat this new, not a gap in research.

نقاط القوة وما يستدعي الانتباه
نقاط القوة
- A genuine first: methanol fuel-cell hotel powerConverting methanol to hydrogen to electricity to run up to 100 kW of hotel load with engines and generators off is a real engineering step beyond the diesel-electric hybrid systems most yards now offer, and it is unique to this hull as of 2026.
- Sub-500GT efficient crewingAt 499 GT the 50Steel sits just under the 500GT threshold that triggers heavier crewing and certification requirements, while still sleeping 10 guests across 5 cabins with 9 crew.
ما يستدعي الانتباه
- First-of-kind technology riskA fuel-cell system with no operating history on a delivered hull carries the reliability and service-network uncertainty every first-generation system does; buyers are paying an early-adopter premium without a track record to point to.
- Range and cruise figures are single-sourcedThe 4,000nm/11-knot range quoted by aggregators has not been confirmed on Sanlorenzo's own page or by an independent sea trial, so a buyer should verify it directly with the yard rather than treat it as settled.
معلومات عملية
| Price | Quoted from EUR 38,250,000 by itBoat; BOAT International's directory listing does not publish a price, so this figure is single-sourced and should be confirmed with the yard. |
|---|---|
| Delivery | First hulls delivering in 2026, per BOAT International's superyacht directory. |
| Used market | None yet - too new for a resale market to exist. |
| Not published | Running costs, generator specification, stabiliser and thruster make, and any independently verified sea-trial range or speed figures. |
