The fresh start at 72 feet
When Gulf Craft rebuilt its core range, the 72 was the boat chosen to carry the new identity into the sub-25 metre market. She premiered at the Abu Dhabi show in 2022 with the current design language, near vertical bow, deep hull glazing, clean surfaces, and immediately read as a scaled sibling of the superyachts above her.
The interior followed the same modernisation. Phathom Studio developed the revitalised interior in two selectable trims, Chinook in cool desaturated woods and Sirocco in warmer tones, so buyers choose a mood at contract without paying custom-yacht money. The two trims also solve a practical problem, sister hulls stop looking identical inside, which owners in brand-dense harbours appreciate. Miele appliances and full height glazing finish a specification pitched consciously at European expectations.
Beam is the quiet advantage
The 72 carries a 5.91 metre beam, a figure notably wider than the established Italian and British competition at this length, and every centimetre of it shows up inside. The open plan main deck runs galley, dining and salon in one continuous space with sea views down both sides, and the cockpit and swim platform keep the width working right to the transom. Light pours in through the hull glazing on both levels, which keeps the lower deck from feeling like a lower deck.
Below, the extra beam pays for a genuine full beam master amidships plus a VIP forward and two further cabins, eight berths in all, with two crew cabins aft keeping the boat viable with or without professional help. The two aft cabins carry professional crew where owners want full service, or the owner-operator runs her with a single deckhand and gains a stowage cabin. Sightlines from the raised helm, bow and stern thruster control and wide side decks keep short-handed handling calm.
That flexibility mirrors how ownership actually evolves. Buyers step up from a 15 to 18 metre they drove themselves, keep their independence aboard the 72, then add crew as the cruising grows more ambitious. The boat does not force the decision on day one, which removes a genuine obstacle in this segment.
The volume seller's job
Within the range, the 72 is the bridge between the day boat fleet below and the Superyacht Collection above, and its commercial task is introduction. An owner who has a good 22 metre experience with the brand is the natural client for a Nomad 75 or a Majesty 100 Terrace three years later, and the yard prices the 72 accordingly.
Against the marquee European names the argument is straightforward, more beam, more standard equipment, a hydraulic platform and a BBQ in the base boat, and a build slot measured in months from a yard that launches hundreds of hulls a year. For buyers who compare spec sheets before brochures, the 72 tends to win its shortlists. For the rest, the decision usually comes down to a sea trial and a spreadsheet, and the boat is built to win both.
