The Alblasserdam yard built her as a genuine full custom commission with a clear appetite for engineering firsts. She continued the yard's long and productive partnership with designer Sam Sorgiovanni. From launch she stood among the most capable yachts in her whole size class. Her arrival on the water was closely watched across the industry.

The build pushed several technical boundaries at once, notably in the sheer scale of glazing and doors integrated into the structure. What the crew and the designer say about living with her

Sam Sorgiovanni's brief, in his own words, was to build "something that was like nothing else", and one detail he points to is that what reads as black paint on the superstructure is "actually glass". The four-level staircase that winds through the yacht was inspired by vines he saw wrapping tree trunks in Bali's Monkey Forest, and took, in his account, well over a year to design and build by hand in teak and stainless steel. The same brief produced the nearly four metre glass doors on the upper deck terrace, the largest Oceanco has ever installed, flush-mounted on invisible tracks so the whole opening can close weathertight in bad weather.

Barbara's own captain has described the more practical side of owning her: the crew washes the yacht every day specifically to protect the high-gloss paint from damage. He also told Boat International about a pet clownfish that went missing from an interior tank and turned up, alive, down in the engine room bilge. The chief stewardess separately described the cinema seating, with "3D options and PlayStation and every game you can imagine", the kind of detail that only someone who works the room every day would think to mention.
