The engine room of the FD story

When Horizon and Cor D. Rover launched the FD series at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale show, the first boat was the FD85, and the high-eighties size has anchored the line ever since, selling twenty hulls across the range in three years. The FD90 is that original concept matured, with the lessons of every earlier hull folded into the current specification. Nothing else in the catalog has been refined by as many completed boats.

The production record is the model's best advertisement. Numbers a crew can live with

The FD90 measures 27.45 meters overall on a 24.70 meter waterline, with a 7.11 meter beam and a shallow 1.85 meter draft, displacing 106 tons. Power is a pair of MTU 10V2000 M96L diesels at 1,600 horsepower each, backed by twin Kohler generators of 35 or 40 kW depending on electrical standard.

Fuel capacity of 13,170 liters, about 3,480 US gallons, with 1,500 liters of fresh water gives the boat legs well beyond weekend range, and the fast displacement hull keeps consumption civil at passage speeds. The High Performance Piercing Bow does its usual double duty, softening head seas while pushing accommodation volume into the forward third of the hull. The walkaround bridge deck

The FD90's signature exterior feature is a walkaround bridge deck that lets guests and crew move between the boat deck and the forward seating areas without cutting through the helm, a piece of circulation design normally found on much larger yachts. Up top, owners choose between a Skyline enclosed bridge and Horizon's Split Use Skylounge arrangement.

The main deck is built around big glass. Horizon fits the salon with expansive windows that pull the seascape into the living spaces, and the aft deck, salon and dining areas run as one continuous entertaining platform. The look is unmistakably FD, vertical bow, long superstructure, and it has aged into the series' most recognizable silhouette.

Accommodation follows the formula that sells the whole series: a spacious master stateroom on the main deck, four guest staterooms below, and two crew cabins tucked aft so the professional side of the operation stays invisible. For a couple who host children and friends in rotation, five staterooms at 90 feet removes the scheduling mathematics. The two crew cabins suit how most FD90s actually run, with a captain and one or two hands covering operations, maintenance and turnarounds.

The customization headroom is genuine. Hull 36's owner is configuring the boat around exploration, earlier hulls have gone to sun-deck jacuzzis and skylounge offices, and the Australian market has taken Skyline versions tailored for year-round cruising. The tooling stays constant while the boats leave Kaohsiung looking like one-offs.

Why owners come back

Hull 36 going to a repeat client is the detail worth noticing. Horizon's owner-rendezvous culture, factory-direct support and willingness to rework layouts mid-series create the kind of loyalty that shows up as second and third boats, and the FD90 is where much of that repeat business lands. The yard's news pages read as a rolling diary of FD90 launches, sea trials and deliveries, which is exactly what a buyer wants to see before wiring a deposit.

For buyers arriving from outside the brand, the depth of the sistership fleet means honest secondhand comparisons, proven resale behavior and a crew labor market already familiar with the boat's systems.
