Italian-built flybridge motor yachts from Groupe Beneteau's Monfalcone shipyard
3 modelosMonte Carlo Yachts is an Italian motor yacht builder created by Groupe Beneteau in late 2008, at the depth of the global financial crisis, as the French group's push into larger flybridge motor yachts. The move was championed inside Beneteau by Annette Roux, and the group installed Carla Demaria as president with Fabrizio Iarrera as managing director to run it. Rather than retreat during the downturn, Beneteau bet on Italian craftsmanship, setting up a dedicated yard at Monfalcone on the Gulf of Trieste, an area with a long shipbuilding tradition and a deep pool of skilled labour. The first model, the MCY 76, was unveiled in Venice in 2010, two years after the company's founding.
Growth from there was fast for a yard built during a recession. Monte Carlo Yachts grew from 20 employees and roughly 3 million euros of turnover in 2010 to several hundred employees and tens of millions of euros in turnover within about six years, adding close to one new model a year. That run culminated in July 2015, when the yard marked its fifth anniversary by launching the MCY 105, its first true superyacht-scale model and, for a decade, its flagship. The pace has continued since: today's MCY Collection spans the 66 up to the 105, plus a newer Skylounge variant line.
Monte Carlo Yachts SpA has been wholly owned by Groupe Beneteau since its creation; it was never an independent yard brought into a joint venture, and no other outside shipbuilder holds a stake in it. Leadership has stayed inside the group. Founding president Carla Demaria left after a disagreement with Beneteau's management, and in November 2018 the group's own chief financial officer, Christophe Caudrelier, was appointed president of Monte Carlo Yachts. In March 2022 the Monfalcone facility was formally folded into a new entity, Groupe Beneteau Italia, tightening the operational link between the yard and its French parent even further.
That corporate structure has not diluted the yard's Italian identity on the shop floor. Monte Carlo Yachts markets itself explicitly on "strictly Italian management" and craftsmanship, while leaning on Beneteau's industrial scale, purchasing power and international dealer network to sell and build boats an independent Italian yard of the same age could not have financed alone. Inside Beneteau's own portfolio, which also includes the Beneteau, Jeanneau, Prestige and Lagoon brands, Monte Carlo Yachts is the group's dedicated entry into the higher-margin, design-led flybridge motor yacht segment, a category the group did not otherwise compete in when it was founded.
Every Monte Carlo Yachts model, from the smallest 66 to the flagship 105, has been designed inside and out by a single studio, Venice-based Nuvolari Lenard, since the brand's inception. Founders Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard were given what the yard describes as carte blanche from 2009 to define the MCY look, and that continuity is unusual in a segment where most builders rotate through several outside studios across a single range. The resulting style is consistent across two decades of models: swept, minimal-straight-edge glazing, a high bow and pronounced bulwarks borrowed visually from far larger yachts, and construction methods, resin-infused hulls with Kevlar and carbon fibre superstructure elements, adapted from aerospace rather than traditional hand lay-up.
That single-studio consistency is also how Monte Carlo Yachts differentiates itself from older Italian peers such as Sanlorenzo, Azimut and the Ferretti Group's Riva and Pershing lines, all of which spread their ranges across multiple external design houses. A yard founded in 2008 competing for the same awards as builders with decades or a century of history is a direct result of that discipline. Monte Carlo Yachts remains a flybridge and motor yacht specialist only, with no sailing yachts and no full-custom megayacht division; it sits just below the full-custom and semi-custom superyacht tier occupied by builders like CRN or Sanlorenzo's largest lines, competing instead on production efficiency, a single strong design signature and Groupe Beneteau's backing.
