The return of the Wally sloop

Wally built its name on carbon sailing yachts, so the first new cruising sloop of the Ferretti Group era carried real weight. The wallywind110 launched in June 2024, in the brand's thirtieth anniversary year, and debuted at the Monaco Yacht Show that September. The first hull, Galma, drew crowds for a simple reason. This was the classic Wally recipe, restated with a decade's worth of new engineering, and a second hull was already in build before the show opened.

The team reads like a who's who. Naval architecture comes from judel/vrolijk & co, the exterior and interior design from Wally with Studio Santa Maria Magnolfi, and the build from Ferretti Group's composite facilities. The all-carbon hull is laminated in a female mould, which delivers a fair, paint-ready surface and consistent weight control, and the first boat wore a bright metallic finish with blue reflections that made the point about build quality without a word.

A hybrid in the true sense

Wally calls the 110 a hybrid yacht, a superlative bluewater cruiser with racing performance, and the specification supports the claim. Unladen displacement is 69,800 kilograms, light for a 33 metre cruising yacht with this much interior. The rig is a towering carbon spar from Hall Spars standing about 48 metres, setting 635 square metres upwind and 1,296 square metres downwind. Twin carbon rudders keep the helm honest when the boat is pressed.

The keel is the enabler. A telescopic arrangement gives 4.5 metres of draft for harbours and shallow anchorages and extends to 6.8 metres when the yacht wants to climb upwind, so the owner never has to choose between marina access and stability. A 355 horsepower Cummins auxiliary covers the calms. Sailed properly, this is a yacht that can win its class at a superyacht regatta and then leave on an Atlantic crossing the following week.

The deck is where the wallywind110 breaks its size class. The guest cockpit measures roughly 80 square metres and is completely free of technical equipment, no winches, no lines, no travellers, dimensions and calm comparable to the cockpits of modern 60 metre sailing superyachts. All handling happens elsewhere, managed hydraulically in the Wally manner, so guests live on a flush teak platform that flows from the deckhouse to the transom.

Forward of the mast there is a second social zone, a foredeck lounge with removable furniture, and the yacht can host up to fifteen guests for entertaining at anchor. The flush deck and clean sightlines do more than look good. They make the boat safe and legible underway, with crew work kept away from guests, and they photograph like nothing else at 33 metres, which owners tend to discover matters more than they expected.

A real home below

The interior answers the question every performance sailing yacht faces, whether the owner pays for the speed in comfort. The full-beam owner's suite comes with walk-in wardrobes, a private lounge and a his and hers bathroom, a specification normally found on yachts ten metres longer. Three guest cabins and a dedicated office complete the guest side, with quarters for five crew keeping service professional and separate.

Layout flexibility was designed in from the start, so individual hulls can weight the accommodation toward guests, toward the owner or toward long-range self-sufficiency. Materials follow the Wally register, structural carbon softened by pale timber and restrained fabrics, with the glazed deckhouse keeping the saloon connected to the horizon. It is a true bluewater interior, built light, finished quietly and arranged for weeks aboard, with the owner's privacy treated as a first-class requirement.

Why it matters to own one

The wallywind110 occupies a gap most yards have abandoned, the sub-35 metre carbon sloop that is equally credible as a family cruiser and a regatta entry. Its natural rivals are semi-custom performance sloops from a handful of specialist yards, and against them the Wally brings a stronger design signature, a lighter build and the Ferretti Group's industrial support network behind every system on board.

It also opens the door to the Wally fleet scene, the class racing and rendezvous that give the brand its social gravity in the Mediterranean. As the first of the wallywind family afloat, the 110 is the yacht that defines how the 130 and 150 will be judged, and early hulls of a range that succeeds have a way of becoming the collectible ones. Galma's reception at Monaco suggests this range will succeed.
