MCY 76 Skylounge

An Enclosed Bridge, Not a New Hull

Monte Carlo Yachts built the Skylounge on the same 23.06 metre hull as the standard MCY 76, a semicustom platform the yard has sold since 2010 and updated into a second generation from 2019. The change that defines the Skylounge is entirely above the main deck: instead of an open flybridge with a helm station and sun pads exposed to the weather, the upper deck is enclosed in glass, air-conditioned, and fitted out as a second living space with a convertible sofa, a desk area and an electric hardtop overhead. Nuvolari Lenard drew both the exterior and interior, continuing a relationship with Monte Carlo Yachts that runs across the whole range.

The trade a buyer makes is straightforward: an owner who cruises somewhere cold, wet or simply variable gets a second saloon usable in any weather, at the cost of the open-air flybridge lounging that the standard 76 keeps. Monte Carlo Yachts markets the layout explicitly as semicustom, and the galley can be relocated forward on request to free space amidships for a formal dining table - one of the more meaningful layout changes the yard will make to order rather than leave as a fixed specification.

Performance and the Real Range Trade-Off

Engine options are two MAN V12s rated at either 1,550 hp or 1,650 hp each, and on the higher-output engines Monte Carlo Yachts quotes a top speed near 30 knots with a cruise around 24 knots. A published sea trial recorded the boat coming onto plane at 1,200 rpm with fuel consumption of 8.4 litres per nautical mile, and noted the interior noise level stayed low enough for normal conversation as revolutions climbed - notable given the boat is powered by two 1,400 hp-plus V12 engines.

The range figures are where a buyer needs to read carefully rather than take a single number at face value. One source quotes 400 nautical miles at a 19.8 knot cruise; another quotes 1,779 nautical miles, which is only reachable well back from that speed, closer to a fast-displacement pace. Fuel capacity is roughly 1,321 US gallons (about 5,000 litres), so both figures are consistent with the same tank at very different burn rates - this is a planing hull, and like every planing hull her efficient range shrinks fast once she comes properly onto plane. A buyer planning long passages should ask for a fuel curve at the specific cruise speed they intend to run, not a single headline range figure.

Construction and Systems

Monte Carlo Yachts uses vacuum infusion to saturate the fiberglass, Kevlar and carbon-fibre layers that make up the hull, a construction method chosen to keep weight down on a planing hull without giving up structural stiffness. The boat is certified to CE Category A, meaning she is rated seaworthy for winds over Force 8 and wave heights above 13 feet - a genuine offshore rating rather than a coastal one, though a rating is not the same thing as a comfortable ride in that weather. A Quick stabilisation system combining fins and interceptors manages trim and roll both underway and at rest.

Standard equipment includes two Onan generators and a bow thruster; specific tankage beyond fuel and the roughly 264 US gallon (1,000 litre) fresh water capacity is not consistently published across brokerage sheets, and watermaker fitment varies by hull and should be confirmed on any specific boat. Accommodation is four cabins for up to eight guests - a master stateroom running the full 18 foot 10 inch beam with circular windows, two twin guest cabins, and a forward VIP with a centreline berth - plus two crew cabins.

Buying New or Used

No new-build list price for the Skylounge appears on Monte Carlo Yachts' own site or in the trade press covering her, which is itself worth noting for a buyer budgeting a new order - pricing is evidently handled dealer to dealer rather than published, unlike Ferretti Group's own quoted list price for the Custom Line Navetta 42. On the used market, a four-year-old 2021-built Skylounge currently asks around EUR 3.4 million, with earlier first-generation MCY 76 hulls (built 2010 to 2018, before the Skylounge variant existed) trading for meaningfully less.

That price gap between generations matters to a used buyer: a first-generation MCY 76 is a different, older hull without the enclosed sky lounge, so a listing search for 'MCY 76' without the Skylounge qualifier will mix two distinct products built a decade apart. A serious buyer should confirm which generation and which flybridge configuration a specific listing describes before comparing asking prices.

Living Aboard: the Sky Lounge and the Aft Terrace

A floating staircase connects the main saloon to the sky lounge, which Monte Carlo Yachts fitted with an electric hardtop and a skylight so the space reads as bright and open rather than boxed in despite being fully enclosed. Headroom runs 6 foot 6 inches, and the layout includes a convertible sofa and a desk or office area, with an optional television and wine chiller. On the main deck below, the raised U-shaped settee with twin pedestal tables sits under 6 foot 8 inch headroom behind a single-pane windshield flanked by curved glass - the kind of unbroken sightline that is easier to achieve on a semicustom hull than a full-custom one, since the moulds are already proven.

The compromise the Skylounge accepts for that enclosed upper deck is outdoor flybridge space, and Monte Carlo Yachts' answer is the aft terrace: roughly 142 square feet with stainless steel rails, room to lounge, and a starboard barbecue and fridge, positioned one level down from the sky lounge rather than on top of it. That keeps an owner who wants fresh air within a few steps of the enclosed saloon rather than forcing a choice between the two. The galley sits aft with hidden appliances, twin under-counter fridges, a freezer drawer, a dishwasher and a microwave - or, on the semicustom option, moves forward to free the amidships space for formal dining, the single most consequential layout change the yard offers on this hull.

A chi si rivolge: An owner who wants a 23 metre flybridge yacht usable in cold, wet or simply changeable weather, and who values a genuine enclosed second saloon over open-air flybridge lounging - the trade-off the standard open-bridge MCY 76 does not make.
