A fashion name, and the company that actually makes it
The Roberto Cavalli Group moved into the home sector in 2012, following the route Armani, Versace and Fendi had already taken, and it did so through licences. Four companies carried parts of the offer in the early years. The furniture line as it exists today, Roberto Cavalli Home Interiors, is produced and distributed by Oniro Group S.R.L. of Cantu in the province of Como, deep in the Brianza furniture belt.
That structure is the single most important thing to understand before specifying it. The name on the piece belongs to a Milanese fashion house owned in Dubai. The engineering, the frames, the foams, the upholstery and the aftersales belong to an Italian furniture company. When something goes wrong on a yacht, Oniro is the party that matters, and it is the party whose terms should be read.
Who owns the brand
Vision Investments, the private investment company of Hussain Sajwani, chairman of the Dubai developer DAMAC Properties, completed its purchase of Roberto Cavalli SpA on 28 November 2019. Fausto Puglisi has been creative director since October 2020. Roberto Cavalli himself died at his home in Florence on 12 April 2024, aged 83.
The brand has since been extended hard into interiors and property. The home textiles licence went to Designer's Linen Inc of New York in January 2025, covering fabrics, beach and bath linen and tabletop, replacing Mirabello Carrara, with a first collection at Heimtextil in Frankfurt. There is also an exclusive tile and surfaces agreement with RAK Ceramics. An owner buying a Cavalli interior in 2026 is buying a licensing portfolio.

A licensed decorative brand has no route for answering a fire surveyor, and on a chartering yacht that is the whole conversation.
The founder's own boat
Cavalli was not a stranger to the water. He commissioned and styled a 28 m all-aluminium yacht, Freedom, launched by Cerri Cantieri Navali in 2018 with naval architecture by Tommaso Spadolini, and the brief he gave was reported as designing something Batman would drive. He had owned a Baglietto before it.
Freedom is the clearest statement of what this aesthetic looks like afloat. Animal print upholstery through the cabins and saloons, gold detailing, crystal-covered surfaces and heavy embroidery, with a galley larger than the owner's cabin because Cavalli liked to cook. It is worth looking at before an owner commits, because photographs of the furniture in a Milan showroom do not convey what a whole interior of it feels like.

The range
Indoors the catalogue covers sectional sofas, sofas, armchairs, chaises longues, poufs, low tables, consoles, dining tables, chairs, storage units, bookcases, beds, dressing tables, desks, lighting, mirrors, decorative objects and rugs. Outdoors there is a relax line and a dining line. It is a complete residential offer, which means a yacht can be furnished from it end to end.
The design language is the fashion house's, translated by Oniro. Animalier prints, strong colour, high-contrast surfaces, metal and glass. Collections are presented annually at Salone del Mobile in Milan, with the 2025 collection titled Glowing Reflections and themed from the Nevada desert to Las Vegas. That naming tells an owner most of what he needs to know about the register.
What it costs, and what is not published
Oniro publishes no prices, but the technical documentation is better than most. Each piece has a technical description of its construction, a dimensioned drawing and a downloadable product sheet, and the 2026 materials, fabrics and cushions catalogues give fibre composition and price category for every cloth. The 2D DWG and 3D files need a trade login. What exists in the market are dealer and resale listings. A European authorised dealer listed an Inanda leather armchair at about EUR 16,000 in 2026. Resale listings for Cavalli Home sofas run from roughly USD 17,000 to USD 84,000, with an average in the low thirties.
That places the line squarely alongside Minotti and Poltrona Frau on price and behind both on published information. An owner should ask for a written specification for every piece, naming the frame material, the foam density, the leather or fabric reference and the finish, because none of it is available to look up.

The certification gap
The IMO 2010 Fire Test Procedures Code has been mandatory since 1 July 2012 for upholstered furniture, curtains and bedding aboard ship, and Part A of the REG Yacht Code has required inherently fire retardant upholstery and suspended textiles on unsprinklered spaces of commercially used yachts of 24 m and over since January 2019. Oniro publishes a great deal about contract work - a whole Interior Design Service division with branded-residence, partnership and private-residence portfolios - and nothing at all about marine projects or fire certification. Not one yacht appears in any portfolio, and the 2026 fabrics catalogue gives composition and price category with no fire class against a single cloth.
This is a sharper problem here than with the houses that run marine or contract divisions, because a licensed decorative brand has no established route for answering the question. It does not make the furniture unusable on a private yacht under a permissive flag. It does mean that on any boat that will charter, the fire certificates must be written into the purchase order as a condition of supply, and the owner should be prepared for the answer to be no.

How a printed interior ages at sea
High-contrast print is the hardest thing to keep looking right under ultraviolet light, because the dark ground and the pale figure fade at different rates, and the pattern loses its definition as it goes. A Mediterranean summer in a sky lounge is an aggressive test. Recovering a printed piece also demands a pattern match that a plain cloth never does.
The decorative hardware is the second maintenance load. Gold-finished metal, chrome, mirror and crystal all live badly in salt air and demand constant attention from the interior crew, and a plated finish that lifts cannot be polished back. Budget the crew hours honestly, and specify the metal finishes with the yard's paint and plating specialist, because a showroom sample says nothing about how a plating behaves in salt air.
What it does to the boat at resale
A strongly themed interior narrows the pool of buyers. A brokerage listing for a yacht fitted throughout in animalier print and gold is a listing that a large part of the market will not view, and the discount at sale usually exceeds what the furniture cost. This is not an argument against the aesthetic. It is an argument for knowing the number.
The mitigation is the same one every yacht designer offers. Put the committed pieces where they are loose and removable, keep the fixed joinery, the flooring and the wall panels neutral, and the next owner can change the character of the boat in a fortnight without a refit. Owners who intend to keep the yacht for life can ignore all of this.
Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere
It suits an owner who wants his boat to look like nobody else's, who is buying the interior for his own pleasure, and who is comfortable with a supplier that answers questions by quotation. Used as accents in an otherwise restrained saloon, a few pieces do exactly what they are meant to do and cost less than committing the whole boat.
The owner who should look elsewhere is chartering, is planning to sell within five years, or wants documented technical specifications before he orders. Poltrona Frau's Interiors in Motion division and the established furnishing houses all answer those needs better, and none of them will give him the same room.
Practical detail
| Who actually makes it | Oniro Group S.R.L. of Cantu, under licence from the Roberto Cavalli fashion house owned by Hussain Sajwani's Vision Investments; Oniro's terms, not the fashion house's, govern any dispute. |
|---|---|
| Pricing | No list published. A European dealer listed an Inanda leather armchair at about EUR 16,000 in 2026; resale sofas run roughly USD 17,000 to USD 84,000. |
| Fire certification | None published for any fabric in the 2026 materials catalogue. On a chartering yacht, write the FTP Code certificate into the purchase order as a condition of supply and be prepared for the answer to be no. |
| Documentation | Each piece has a dimensioned drawing and downloadable product sheet; 2D DWG and 3D files require a trade login. |
| Resale exposure | A strongly themed interior narrows the buyer pool at sale; keep committed pieces loose and removable and the fixed joinery neutral if resale value matters. |
| What is not published | No new-retail price list, no fire certificate for any cloth, and no marine project anywhere in Oniro's own portfolio. |
What owners and crew report
The furniture licensee is confirmed as Oniro Group, separate from the fashion house's other home licences
Trade coverage of the licensing structure lists Oniro Group as the furniture and interiors licensee alongside separate licensees for tiles, wallpaper and tableware.
FashionUnitedThe DAMAC chairman's ownership is confirmed by multiple business outlets, completed 28 November 2019
Hussain Sajwani's Vision Investments, part of his DICO Group, bought 100 percent of Roberto Cavalli SpA, extending a partnership already running through Aykon Hotels interiors.
The NationalCavalli's own account of designing his yacht Freedom names the Batman-inspired brief directly
Boat International's on-board feature quotes the brief as designing something Batman would drive, with a metallic black hull and grey superstructure and an eclectic interior of African animal-print upholstery and the owner's own travel photographs on the bulkheads.
Boat International
What is good, and what to watch
Strong points
- A completely unmistakable look, proven on the founder's own boatFreedom is the founder's own proof of concept, animal-print upholstery, gold detailing and a galley built oversized because Cavalli liked to cook, documented on board by Boat International.
- Better technical documentation than most decorative licencesOniro publishes a dimensioned drawing and downloadable product sheet for every piece and a materials catalogue giving fibre composition and price category for every cloth, more than many houses at this level disclose.
- A well-capitalised, clearly identified brand ownerOwnership by Hussain Sajwani's Vision Investments, confirmed at the November 2019 close, removes any doubt about who stands behind the licence.
What to watch
- No marine project anywhere in the licensee's own portfolioOniro's contract division lists branded-residence and private-residence work but, read July 2026, not one yacht project and no fire certification for any fabric in the current catalogue.
- A theme that narrows the resale marketA brokerage listing fitted throughout in animalier print and gold is a listing a large share of buyers will not view, and the discount at sale usually exceeds what the furniture cost.
- Prices sit at Minotti and Poltrona Frau level with far less published dataResale listings run from about USD 17,000 to USD 84,000 per sofa with no published new-retail list, so an owner is paying premium-house prices without a premium house's transparency.
Who it is for: Owners furnishing a yacht for themselves and not for the next buyer, who want a saloon nobody else has and will pay the resale price for it.
