Benetti crosses 100 metres

FB277, named Lana on delivery, is a landmark project that took Benetti past the 100-metre mark. Handed over in June 2020, it was among the first of a run of giga yachts the yard delivered in a concentrated period it called its Giga Season. At 107 metres it stands among the largest yachts ever built in Italy. The project proved Benetti could compete at the very top of the size range with northern European rivals. Only a handful of yards worldwide can deliver a fully custom yacht at this length.

For a yard long associated with sub-70-metre yachts, Lana was a statement of ambition and capability. It required the scale and facilities of the Livorno operation to build. The boat also entered the charter market, which put its interior and amenities in front of a wide audience. Lana remains one of the defining projects of the modern Benetti era. The project stretched the yard's engineering and project management to a new level.

In-house design at giga scale

Benetti designed Lana in its entirety, both exterior and interior, with naval architecture by Pierluigi Ausonio. The exterior is imposing yet balanced across its many decks, with a 15.2-metre beam giving real presence on the water. A touch-and-go helipad sits in the bow, a feature reserved for yachts of this scale. The styling reads as classical and restrained in place of flashy. That pad lets a helicopter set down briefly for boarding rather than stow permanently on deck.

The sheer size opens up exterior spaces that smaller yachts cannot offer, including a giant pool on the sun deck. Deck areas are vast and layered, giving guests a choice of settings across the boat. The design keeps a coherent identity despite the scale involved. It is a giga yacht that still looks like a Benetti.

Twelve guests, a large crew

Lana accommodates up to 12 guests across eight cabins, including a run of VIP rooms on the main deck. The interior was created by Benetti's own style department, working to a full-custom brief. Public spaces are sized for the volume, with the ceiling heights and lounges only a 107-metre hull allows. The owner's accommodation commands a private position within the boat. The main-deck VIP arrangement is unusual and speaks to a brief built around hosting on a grand scale.

Supporting all of this is a large professional crew, reported at more than 30, housed in their own extensive quarters. That crew count reflects the service level a yacht of this class demands. The layout separates guest and service zones cleanly, with the owner's areas kept private. Everything about the interior operates at giga-yacht scale.

Diesel-electric power and a spa

Lana runs a diesel-electric propulsion system built around twin Rolls-Royce podded drive units of roughly 2,800 kW each, fed by eight Caterpillar generator sets. Benetti's own technical sheet publishes only a range figure -- 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots -- and does not state a top speed; Superyacht Times, reporting on the same propulsion package, puts it at 16 knots. The steel hull and aluminium superstructure follow standard practice for a yacht of this size. Diesel-electric drive also helps keep noise and vibration low across the accommodation.

The amenity list is extensive, led by a beach club with a hammam at the waterline and the touch-and-go helipad up forward. Wellness and water-level living are clearly central to the brief. The engineering had to integrate these features into a hull rated for long passages. It is a self-sufficient floating base for extended cruising almost anywhere.

Who FB277 suits

A yacht like Lana suits an owner operating at the very top of the market, whether for private use or large-scale charter. It offers the space and crew to host large groups in remote destinations for long periods. The full-custom nature means the boat was tailored to a specific brief rather than a series template. Ownership at this level is a commitment on every axis.

In market terms Lana sits among a small group of 100-metre-plus yachts, where each project is close to unique. Its presence on the charter market has kept it visible and given a sense of its running character. For Benetti the boat is proof of custom capability at the largest scale. It defines the ceiling of what the yard can build. As one of Benetti's Giga Season deliveries, it holds a permanent place in the yard's record.

A new name and a new owner since delivery

Superyacht Times reported in April 2023 that Lana had been rechristened Mar and was believed to have been sold, citing Luxury Launches' account of a deal concluded in the UAE. No sale price has been confirmed by the yard, a broker or either reported owner. The new management is the same Abu Dhabi company that runs the 160-metre Lurssen yacht Blue, and the boat's last recorded yard period was an NCA Refit at Carrara completed in July 2021.

The rename has not slowed her charter career: she remains available through brokers at roughly EUR 1.7-1.8 million a week, and her captain has described a 33-strong crew running a 120 square metre beach club and an eight-metre sun-deck pool for guests. Buyers considering a yacht at this level should treat any headline ownership story as provisional until a yard or registry confirms it -- 'believed to have been sold' is the trade press's own phrasing, not a settled fact. Press coverage has also reported Beyonce and Jay-Z among past charter guests, though as with the ownership change, that is a media report rather than a fact confirmed by the yacht's management.
