Where the crossover began
The SX88 is the founding model of Sanlorenzo's SX line, the boat that first named a category which barely existed. It borrowed the low, usable volumes of an expedition vessel and married them to the finish of a luxury motor yacht. That idea proved popular enough to spawn the SX76 below it and the SX100 and SX120 above. At 26.7 metres the SX88 sits in the heart of the range it started.
Built in composite by the Yacht Division and made to order, each SX88 reflects its owner's wishes. Its role is the original crossover, still one of the most recognisable boats in the class. Years after its launch it remains a strong seller, which says a good deal about how well the first attempt was judged. It suits owners drawn to the idea in the size that first defined it.

The open main deck
The exterior comes from Zuccon International Project, drawn with the crossover's low, explorer-inspired profile. The layout opens the main deck and aft spaces so the tender garage and side terraces feed into the living areas. That gives the boat far more social square footage than its length implies. Large glazing keeps the interior bright and tied to the sea.
The main deck can be configured for open-plan living, with the galley and lounge flowing together, or arranged more formally to taste. The connection to the water at the stern is central, turning the aft into a beach area at anchor. Terraces and openings widen the usable space when the boat is still, and the tender garage feeds neatly into the layout. The whole design is built around life outdoors, with the sea kept close at every turn.

The SX88 is the boat that started the crossover line and still defines what the SX range means.

Space and daylight
Inside, the SX88 accommodates eight guests and a crew of three. The crossover layout spends its space on the main-deck living areas, which feel open and full of light. Interiors follow the calm, residential language set by Piero Lissoni, with quiet materials and long sight lines. Owners can tailor the arrangement and finish closely.
The plan keeps the main deck as one flexible, social heart, with guest cabins arranged to use the beam well. The emphasis falls on the shared spaces and the view, so the day tends to gather around the open living area and the aft deck. It is a boat drawn for informal, sun-filled cruising with family and friends. Openness is its defining quality.

Pods and quiet
The SX88 is driven by three Volvo Penta D13 IPS pod units of around 800 hp each, a layout that keeps the machinery compact and frees interior volume. The triple-pod arrangement gives good speed and easy handling for the size. The reported top speed is about 23 knots, suiting the boat's relaxed crossover character. Fuel is carried at around 9,300 litres.
Pod drives lower noise at the helm and make docking straightforward, which suits a boat run with a small crew. Sanlorenzo keeps the engineering proven and serviceable. The hull gives a smooth ride at cruising speed, and the fuel capacity supports real days out on the water. It is a package built for comfortable, everyday use.

Who the SX88 suits
The SX88 suits the owner who wants the original crossover in its defining size, open and social with a manageable crew. It is well matched to relaxed family cruising, with the main deck as a beach house at anchor. As the model that started the line it carries a certain standing within the range. For a buyer drawn to the SX idea, it is the classic choice.
Against other motor yachts near this length, its case is the open crossover main deck and the connection to the sea that defined the type. For a Sanlorenzo owner it is the heart of the SX line, the size most buyers picture when they think of the crossover. It rewards those who value informal, outdoor cruising.
Двигатели и системы
| Main engines | Triple Volvo Penta IPS1050 pod units, 800 hp each (2,400 hp combined), mounted under the aft deck and swim platform to keep noise and vibration out of the living spaces, per Yachting's tested figures. |
|---|---|
| Fuel and range | 9,300 l (2,456 US gal) fuel. About 1,000 nm at a 10-knot cruise; roughly 480 nm at a 16-knot economical cruise per an independent La Spezia sea trial; consumption measured at 18.6 US gal/hr at 10 knots and 87.2 US gal/hr near top speed. |
| Hull and build | Composite hull and superstructure from Sanlorenzo's Yacht Division, described by one tester as a "bulldog-tough fiberglass and carbon-fiber build." |
| Stabilisation | Zero-speed and underway stabilisers; at least one example reported with electric zero-speed stabilisers paired with an upgraded 35 kW generator in place of the base 28 kW unit - this research could not confirm which is standard versus optional. |
Что сообщают владельцы и экипажи
Sea trial handling and manoeuvrability
Tested in La Spezia, the boat reached 22.5 knots against a 23-knot yard claim, a shortfall the tester put down to local conditions rather than the boat. He called the docking test a surprise: "the manoeuvrability test showed a precision that positively surprised us!"
Alain Brousse, YachtClassIndependent tester's overall impression
Described as "one part expedition vessel, one part luxury motoryacht," with a "bulldog-tough fiberglass and carbon-fiber build" that reads as "modern without appearing trendy."
Tom Serio, YachtingThe open stern layout, a genuine trade-off
The same trial that praised the roughly 30 sq m open aft terrace also noted the concept "might not appeal to everyone," and that folding the galley and dining area into the main deck puts guests close to food preparation, which some owners will prefer and others will not.

Сильные стороны и что учесть
Сильные стороны
- The aft deck is the standout spaceAn open, near-water-level terrace of about 30 square metres drew the strongest praise from an independent tester, and it is the feature that most separates the SX88 from a conventional flybridge yacht of the same length.
- Manoeuvrability beat expectationsA tester who went in expecting the triple-IPS package to be merely adequate came away surprised by the precision of the docking test.
- Noise and vibration genuinely engineered outMounting the engines under the aft deck and platform, away from living spaces, was reported as effective in practice, not just on the spec sheet.
На что обратить внимание
- The open-plan galley divides opinionFolding the galley and dining area into the main deck, rather than separating them, was flagged by an independent tester as a layout some owners will not want, since it puts guests near food preparation.
- Top speed trails the brochure figure22.5 knots recorded against a 23-knot claim on the tested hull, a small but real gap the tester attributed to conditions rather than the boat.
- Stabiliser and generator spec varies by hullAt least one delivered example carries an upgraded 35 kW generator and electric zero-speed stabilisers not confirmed as standard, so a buyer needs to check the build sheet rather than assume the base spec.
Практическая информация
| Price | Standard list price reported at EUR 6.7 million; pre-owned asking prices found in this research clustered around USD 5.2 million. |
|---|---|
| Position in the range | The founding model of Sanlorenzo's SX crossover line, which has since grown to include the SX76 below it and the SX100 and SX120 above. |
| Interior designer | Piero Lissoni, who also moved the control post to the flybridge to free the main deck for open-plan living. |
| What to check before buying | Generator and stabiliser fit varies by hull (28 kW standard, at least one example upgraded to 35 kW with electric zero-speed stabilisers), so confirm the build sheet rather than assuming base spec. |
Для кого: An owner drawn to the original crossover, open and social in the size that first defined the SX line.
