The grand end of the range

Above the 65 metre 212 sits the 220, a 67.6 metre yacht that trades a little agility for real presence and volume. It was born as a stretched development of the 212 platform, adding length and interior space while keeping the proven engineering beneath. At 1,518 GT it moves the owner firmly into large-yacht territory. For a buyer it offered that scale with the semi-custom certainty the range is known for. The 220 sits just below the 74 metre 242 among the largest of the classic Limited Editions.

The pitch is space and grandeur on a known platform. The extra metres over the 212 open up bigger social spaces and a more generous owner's area. Seven cabins carry fourteen guests, a step up from the twelve most of the range accommodates. The naval architecture stayed fixed and tested, so the buyer gained size without a ground-up custom build. Only a small number were delivered, which keeps each hull rare.

Ocean-liner presence

Tim Heywood drew the exterior, and at 67 metres his lines take on real stature. The long hull, tall superstructure and calm sheer give the boat the bearing of a small ship. Broad decks step down towards the water at the stern, opening up space for tenders, toys and outdoor living. The steel hull and aluminium superstructure are built for long ocean passages. From the dock the extra length over the 212 is immediately clear.

The scale shows most in the outdoor spaces. A large sundeck carries a spa pool, a bar and generous shade for entertaining a full guest list. The foredeck offers a quiet retreat away from the main flow, with a touch-and-go helipad forward on some layouts. A beach club at the stern brings guests down to the water for swimming and toys. There is room here to host on a scale the smaller models cannot match.

A Winch interior in the grand tradition

Winch Design shaped the interiors, and the reference was the great ocean liners of the 1920s and 1930s. The result is a set of rooms with height, symmetry and a sense of occasion that suits the size of the boat. A full-beam owner's suite takes the main deck forward, joined by two large VIP suites on the bridge deck. Seven cabins in total carry fourteen guests, more than any other yacht in the classic range. As a semi-custom build, the finish and materials were tailored to each owner.

The volume gives the designers room to be generous. Wide saloons, a formal dining space and a skylounge give guests distinct areas to gather through the day. Light floods in through large windows on the guest decks. Wellness and leisure spaces round out the arrangement in keeping with the range. The interior is scaled for entertaining large groups over a long charter or a full season.

Weight carried with ease

Moving 1,518 tonnes calls for real power, and twin Caterpillar 3516C engines provide it. The 220 reaches about 17 knots at the top end and cruises comfortably near 12.5 knots. Range runs to around 5,000 nautical miles, so the yacht can cross oceans and reach far-flung anchorages under its own keel. Zero-speed stabilisers hold the large hull steady at anchor, which matters on a boat this size. Owners report surprisingly good manoeuvrability for the length.

The systems are built for long, self-sufficient cruising. Fuel tanks of over 157,000 litres and water tanks near 36,000 litres support extended time away from port. Build and service sit inside the Damen and Amels network, a real help on a global programme. Crew accommodation is scaled to run a fourteen-guest yacht properly. The 220 is set up to stay at sea and stay independent for weeks at a time.

The owner it suits

The 220 suits the owner who wants scale and grandeur without commissioning a full custom yacht. Fourteen berths and grand social spaces make it a natural choice for large families and for owners who entertain widely. The Winch interior and ocean-liner styling appeal to buyers who want a sense of occasion aboard. The proven, stretched platform lowers the risk that comes with a boat of this size.

It rewards owners who host and who travel far. The volume carries a big group in comfort, and the range opens genuine ocean itineraries. On the charter market the size and the pedigree command attention. With hulls such as Aurora Borealis and Neninka delivered from 2019, a buyer can study the design in the metal. For an owner ready to step up in size, the 220 offers large-yacht living on a trusted platform.
