Sanlorenzo SL80 Asymmetric

The SL80 Asymmetric brings Sanlorenzo's single-side-deck idea down to its most compact planing hull, an eighty-footer that carries the full asymmetric layout at the friendliest size in the family. It is the easiest way for an owner to buy into the concept that reorganised the motor yacht around the view. At just under twenty-four metres it stays inside the sizes a private owner can run without a large crew.

The most compact asymmetric

The SL80 Asymmetric anchors the lower end of Sanlorenzo's planing SL range, which now runs from this eighty-footer up to the thirty-seven metre SL120. It takes the same principle proven on the larger boats and applies it to a hull small enough to feel personal at the dock. For an owner moving up from a sportsboat or a first flybridge, it offers a real jump in main-deck space without the weight and cost of a superyacht. The asymmetric idea is what sets it apart from the many conventional yachts of this length.

Sanlorenzo builds the SL line in limited numbers to individual briefs, so no two SL80s leave Ameglia quite alike. The boat sits in the Yacht Division, the composite side of the yard, where the building methods are the ones Sanlorenzo knows best. That keeps the SL80 firmly within the house lineage while opening the asymmetric layout to a wider group of buyers.

One walkway, redrawn

The defining move is the removal of one side deck. On a normal flybridge boat a guest walks forward along both sides of the superstructure, and those passages steal width from the rooms inside. By keeping a single starboard walkway, the SL80 lets the main-deck saloon open out to the fuller beam on the port side. The result is more usable interior on a hull where every metre counts.

The exterior comes from Zuccon International Project, the studio that resolved the asymmetric concept into a working boat. Long side glazing sits low on the port quarter, so the horizon reaches deep into the saloon and the sea feels close at anchor. The single deck stays wide enough for safe, sheltered movement forward. Owners can specify the flybridge in open or hardtop form to suit their cruising ground.

The SL80 puts Sanlorenzo's asymmetric main deck on the smallest hull in the planing range.

Living wide

Inside, the SL80 sleeps eight guests and carries a crew of three, a balance that keeps running costs sensible for a private family boat. The volume freed by the layout goes into the main saloon and the owner's accommodation, both of which feel broader than the length suggests. Interiors follow the calm, material-led language that Piero Lissoni has set as art director, with natural finishes and clean lines. The look reads more like a waterside apartment than a traditional yacht saloon.

The plan is built around time spent at rest. The cockpit and foredeck extend the living area when the boat is still, and the low port glazing keeps the eye on the water from inside. Owners can tailor the finishes closely, in keeping with the yard's made-to-measure approach. For a compact yacht, the sense of daylight and openness is the SL80's strongest card.

Planing pace

The SL80 keeps the fast planing hull that defines the SL line, so it behaves like a sports flybridge and not a slow cruiser. Power comes from twin MAN V12 engines of around 1,800 hp, and the reported top speed is about 29 knots. That gives an owner the option of a quick hop between anchorages when the weather is kind. At economical revolutions the range opens up for relaxed coastal work.

The asymmetry does not touch the naval architecture, since the hull below the waterline stays symmetrical and only the deck plan changes. Sanlorenzo has kept the mechanical package proven and conventional, which suits owner-drivers who want reliability over experiment. Fuel is carried at around 5,350 litres, enough for the day cruising the boat is designed to do. Service and handling follow the pattern of the wider SL range.

Who the SL80 suits

The SL80 Asymmetric is for the owner who wants the space and daylight of a much larger boat inside a hull they can handle with a small crew. It suits family cruising in the Mediterranean or similar waters, where the day is spent at anchor with the saloon at the centre of life aboard. Its appeal is the feeling of width and light, delivered without stepping up to a superyacht. For a Sanlorenzo buyer, it is the accessible door into the asymmetric world.

In the market it stands against a crowd of eighty-foot flybridge yachts from other Italian and northern European yards. Its argument is the reordered main deck and the closeness to the water that the single side deck brings. For an owner trading up from around seventy feet, it is a clear and confident step.

لمين هو: An owner who wants a full, light-filled main deck at eighty feet and a boat a small crew can run.
