SP110

The SP110 is Sanlorenzo's first performance yacht, a waterjet-driven sportboat that reaches 40 knots. Its name stands for Smart Performance, a signal that the speed is meant to come with efficiency rather than at its expense. It marked the yard's move into a faster part of the market than it had entered before.

A new kind of Sanlorenzo

Sanlorenzo built its reputation on measured, elegant motor yachts rather than sportboats, so the SP110 was a real departure. Debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival, it is the first model in the SP, or Smart Performance, range. It reaches a reported top speed of 40 knots, a figure the yard had not chased before. The design brings together Bernardo Zuccon on the exterior, Marco Arnaboldi on the hull and Piero Lissoni on the interior.

The point was to prove that a fast yacht need not be crude or thirsty. Sanlorenzo set out to make a high-performance boat that stayed liveable and relatively efficient at speed. That balance is the whole argument of the SP line. It also signalled that the yard was willing to enter a segment it had largely left to others for decades.

Smart performance

The SP110 is around thirty-three and a half metres long with a shallow 1.3-metre draft, and it is driven by waterjets rather than conventional propellers. Three MAN V12 engines of 2,000 hp each feed those jets, giving the boat its speed and its very shallow-water ability. The low draft opens up cruising grounds that a deeper yacht cannot reach. It is a sportboat built to go fast and to nose into places others avoid.

A split-level main deck by Piero Lissoni gives the interior a sense of lightness and openness that offsets the aggressive exterior. The design keeps the sporting stance without turning the inside into a cockpit. Owners get the drama of a fast hull with the comfort of a Sanlorenzo saloon. The shallow draft also makes the boat easy to bring close to a beach or into a shallow bay.

Three waterjets for 40 knots, or one for a quiet idle. The SP110 lets the owner choose.

Inside the sportboat

Despite the performance focus, the SP110 is finished as a proper luxury yacht rather than a stripped-out racer. The split-level arrangement lets Lissoni bring daylight deep into the interior and connect the living spaces without heavy division. Materials and detailing follow the restrained house style set across the Sanlorenzo range. The result is a fast boat that still reads as calm and considered inside.

The layout prioritises the main-deck living and the connection to the outside, in keeping with a yacht designed for warm-water, high-speed cruising. Guest accommodation sits below, and the emphasis is on the social spaces where owners spend their days. It is a boat for active use rather than long static stays.

Fast and efficient

The clever part of the SP110 is what Sanlorenzo calls fractional propulsion. The three engines can be used one at a time, in pairs or all together, so the boat can idle along on a single unit for economy or open all three for its 40-knot top speed. That flexibility gives owners real control over fuel use and autonomy. Cruising speed is reported at around 33 knots, with a range near 470 nautical miles.

Efficiency continues at anchor. Solar panels are fitted to offset the hotel load, and a battery bank is reported to hold the demand for several hours by day and longer overnight, cutting reliance on the generators. A selective catalytic reduction system is quoted as reducing NOx emissions by up to 90 per cent when the engines run. These measures sit within Sanlorenzo's wider effort to lower the environmental impact of its fleet.

Who the SP110 suits

The SP110 suits the owner who wants speed and shallow-water freedom without giving up the finish of a large motor yacht. It rewards those who cruise actively, moving between anchorages and reaching coves that deeper boats cannot. Its fractional propulsion appeals to owners who care about running costs as much as top speed. It is a driver's yacht with a luxury interior.

In the market it stands fairly alone among yards of Sanlorenzo's standing, since few build a waterjet sportboat at this size and level of finish. That rarity is part of its appeal. For a Sanlorenzo owner wanting something faster and more playful, the SP110 is the obvious choice. It also gives the yard a halo model that sits above its conventional flybridge yachts on pace.
