Filling the gap on purpose

The 78 arrived at Cannes in September 2022 to close the distance between the 68 and the 88 flagship, and the yard made no secret that this was the size many of its existing owners were asking for. It is the step where a Sirena stops being an ambitious owner-run boat and becomes a small crewed yacht, without yet taking on the cost profile of the flagship above it.

Robb Report's coverage led with how far the boat could be customised, and that is the 78's personality inside the range. The platform is fixed, the Frers hull, the structural bulkheads and the machinery, while the spaces above and around it flex. For owners coming out of production yachts from the big Italian and British brands, that latitude at this price point is the headline discovery.

Three flybridges, one mould

The defining option is the flybridge itself, offered open, semi-enclosed or fully enclosed. The open deck suits the Mediterranean season and resale into sun markets. The semi-enclosed version shelters the helm and keeps the aft deck open to the sky. The fully enclosed bridge turns the top level into a second saloon with climate control, which effectively adds a room to the boat and extends the season at both ends.

A structural choice of that scale is rare in series production at 24 metres, where the flybridge normally comes one way. It changes the conversation from picking fabrics to configuring the yacht around geography, northern Europe or the Gulf, summer charter or year-round living aboard. It also means two 78s moored side by side can read as different boats, which owners of semi-custom yachts tend to enjoy.

Pick the flybridge, open, sheltered or sealed in glass, and the Frers hull underneath stays the same.

The numbers underneath

Power comes from twin 1,400 hp MAN V12s, with 1,550 hp units optional, driving through V-drives. The standard boat runs 25.5 knots flat out and the upgraded pair takes that to 27, with 16 knots as the fast cruise. Full-load displacement is 87 tonnes on a 6.52 metre beam, and certification is CE Category A, the ocean class, in keeping with the rest of the range.

Throttle back to ten knots and the Frers hull shows its other character, stretching the 9,000 litres of fuel across roughly 1,550 nautical miles. That is Palma to the Aegean and back on one fill, with capacity to spare, and it is the reason the 78 reads as a passage-maker in trawler terms while looking like a contemporary flybridge yacht at the dock.

Four cabins and the owner's spaces

Accommodation runs to four en suite guest cabins with eight berths, plus quarters for crew, drawn around a lower deck that gives the owner's suite genuine privacy from guests. Heads and showers are en suite throughout, and the cabin mix suits the way these boats are actually used, family aboard for weeks in summer, couples and friends rotating through the shoulder season.

Cor D. Rover styles the interior, continuing the language of the 88 one size down, with big glazing, pale timbers and stone-look surfaces kept calm enough to live with long term. The three-flybridge choice ripples through the living spaces too, since an enclosed top deck shifts dining and lounging upstairs and frees the main deck saloon to work harder as a quiet room.

The case for the middle boat

Against the 68, the 78 buys a fourth guest cabin, proper crew accommodation and the flybridge choice. Against the 88, it gives up a cabin and some presence but keeps the same design names, the same Category A build and a materially lighter running bill. For owners with a two-person crew and a Mediterranean programme, it is arguably the most rational boat in the range.

After the Cannes world premiere the 78 crossed the Atlantic for its American debut at Fort Lauderdale in 2023, where Forbes covered the arrival, and US dealers have carried the model since. That transatlantic footprint matters for resale as much as for sales, because it widens the pool of second owners who already know what a Sirena is.
