A-40

A-40 is where the Admiral fleet now begins, a 40 metre, 455 GT all-aluminium yacht drawn with The A Group of Monaco that fits six cabins, two of them owner staterooms, into a length where five is the rule. The first unit sold within weeks of the project's unveiling, and she is in outfitting at Marina di Carrara for delivery expected in 2027.

Forty metres, taken seriously

A-40 is simply Italian for forty, and the name signals how directly the yard approached the brief. Presented in 2024 as the opening model of the A-Fleet, the line that carries the marque name itself, she is the smallest yacht in the current Admiral range and the deliberate entry point to the brand. The exterior comes from The A Group of Monaco working with Admiral Centro Stile, the studio's soft curves alternating with sharper lines along a low, confident profile.

Construction is aluminium throughout, hull and superstructure, engineered to Lloyd's Register standards. The material choice is the platform's quiet advantage, because the weight saved feeds directly into fuel consumption and range, and it lets the yard hold 455 GT of volume on a 40 metre length without the boat ever looking heavy. The naval architecture is carried in-house by The Italian Sea Group, the same office that engineers the 70 metre customs.

Six cabins where five is the rule

The layout is the headline. A-40 sleeps twelve guests in six cabins, and two of those are owner staterooms, one on the main deck and a larger suite above on the upper deck. The yard's chief executive presented her as the only 40 metre on the market offering a six cabin arrangement, and the two-owner configuration has an obvious use case, a boat that genuinely hosts two families, or two generations of one, for weeks at a time with nobody demoted.

Service depth holds up behind the guest count, with nine crew in five cabins, a ratio many 40 metre yachts cannot match with four guest cabins, let alone six. The main deck saloon runs living and dining together past three large floor-to-ceiling windows, with a games room folded into the plan, so the interior lives like a considerably larger yacht even before anyone steps outside.

A stern platform that slides out like a drawer and triples the deck at the waterline.

The drawer platform

The signature piece of engineering sits at the stern. The conventional bathing platform conceals a second platform that extends aft like a drawer, tripling the surface area at the waterline and giving a 40 metre boat the kind of sea-level beach living the market associates with yachts twenty metres longer. At anchor, the stern becomes the social centre of the boat, with water access on a scale the length flatly does not predict.

The yard describes the volumes on board as comparable to a much larger superyacht, and while every builder says something similar, the extending platform, the six cabin count and the full-height main deck glazing are concrete ways the claim is cashed. Admiral's larger lines made main-deck living and waterline space their signatures, and A-40 is recognisably the same thinking compressed into forty metres.

MAN power, honest numbers

Propulsion is a pair of MAN diesels, giving 15 knots flat out and a 12 knot cruise, with range of 4,000 nautical miles at 10 knots from 48,000 litres of fuel. These are displacement-yacht numbers stated without inflation, sized for real itineraries, a season that runs the length of the Mediterranean or an Atlantic positioning passage, with machinery from a maker whose service network reaches every cruising ground that matters.

The 2.15 metre draft is the specification that changes actual cruising. It opens the shallow anchorages, island shelves and lagoon approaches that deeper 40 metre boats give up, and paired with the extending stern platform it makes A-40 a boat that anchors close in and lives off her own stern. For owners coming up from 30 metre boats, keeping that shallow-water freedom while gaining megayacht volume is the whole argument.

From sale to steel, and what follows

The programme moved quickly from announcement to reality. The first unit sold in May 2024, within weeks of the project's unveiling, construction began that November with a keel ceremony at Marina di Carrara, and by December 2025 the hull had moved into outfitting, with delivery expected in 2027. For a new model at a new size for the modern brand, a sold first hull progressing on a public timeline is the strongest available evidence.

The line is already growing. A 42 metre evolution, the A-42, has joined the published range with an open beach club, a pool and fold-down terraces, so the A-Fleet is a developing family and an early A-40 owner buys into a platform with a future. The wider promise is simpler still, that the smallest Admiral is built in the same sheds, by the same hands, as the 78 metre flagships two docks over.

Les points forts et les points de vigilance

Points forts

  • Unusually spacious six-cabin, two-owner-suite layout at 40mMultiple outlets (Boat International, Megayacht News, Yacht Harbour) describe the interior volume as comparable to a 60m yacht, achieved while keeping gross tonnage below the 500 GT threshold - a deliberate design trade-off repeated consistently across independent trade coverage.
  • Beach club platform that reportedly triples usable aft deck spaceMegayacht News reports an extendable beach club platform designed to significantly increase social space at the stern - a genuine, specific design feature.
  • All-aluminium hull and superstructureLighter than steel construction of similar size, which the shipyard states is intended to aid quiet running; confirmed identically across every source checked.
  • Built by an established, high-volume yard rather than a first-time builderThe Italian Sea Group's Admiral brand has an existing track record delivering 40m-plus yachts, which lowers (though does not eliminate) first-of-line execution risk compared with a debut shipyard.

Points de vigilance

  • First hull of an entirely new semi-custom lineThe A-40/A-Fleet line has no completed sister ship yet, so there is no in-service example anywhere to validate layout, systems, or build quality against the shipyard's claims.
  • No sea trial results or independent review existEvery specification and description currently in circulation originates from the shipyard, its design partners, or brokers representing the build - none of it has been independently tested or reviewed by press or class surveyors in a delivered condition.
  • No genuine owner or captain experience can exist yetBecause the yacht will not be delivered until 2027, any language resembling an ownership account currently available is shipyard or design-studio promotional copy, not a first-hand report.
  • Several core mechanical specifications remain unpublishedGenerators, thrusters, watermaker capacity, and engine-room layout have not been disclosed by any source found, and the classification society has not been named.
  • Public delivery-date data is inconsistent outside the shipyard/trade-press consensusWhile the shipyard and major trade press converge on 2027, several brokerage-aggregator listings for the same hull show 2026, 2028, or 2029, indicating that even basic scheduling information is not uniformly reliable in public listings.

Informations pratiques

LOA / GT / beam / draftLOA 40m (131'3"); gross tonnage 455 GT, described by the shipyard as "below 500 GT"; beam 8.5m; draft 2.15m. GT and beam/draft figures confirmed independently by two brokerage spec sheets (Arcon Yachts, NAU Yachts); LOA and the sub-500 GT positioning confirmed by Admiral Yachts, Boat International and Megayacht News.
Build facility and expected deliveryBuilt by The Italian Sea Group's Admiral brand at Marina di Carrara, Italy. First unit sold May 2024; construction/keel-laying began November 2024; currently in outfitting. Delivery expected 2027 - corroborated by Boat International, Megayacht News, Yacht Harbour, Admiral Yachts' own site, and Arcon Yachts. Note: several generic brokerage-aggregator listings for the same hull (e.g. YATCO and reposted Westport Yachts pages) show inconsistent years - 2026, 2028, or 2029 - which appear to be stale or auto-generated entries rather than reliable figures, so they are not treated as competing with the 2027 shipyard/trade-press consensus.
Design creditsExterior styling by The A Group (Monaco-based studio); interior design and naval architecture by Admiral Centro Stile / The Italian Sea Group's Centro Stile.
AccommodationSix cabins in total, sleeping up to 12 guests: two are dedicated owner suites (a VIP suite on the main deck, and a larger owner's suite on the upper deck reached by its own external staircase), plus four further guest cabins. Crew of up to nine. Confirmed across Boat International, Megayacht News, Admiral Yachts, and Arcon Yachts.
Engines / range / speedTwin MAN D2862 LE489 diesels; top speed about 15 knots; cruising speed 12 knots; range 4,000nm at 10 knots.
PriceOne brokerage (Arcon Yachts) lists an asking price of EUR 27,500,000 for this new-build position. A separate brokerage listing (NAU Yachts) shows "price on application" with no figure given. No price has been published by the shipyard or by trade press. The EUR 27.5m figure should be treated as a single-source brokerage asking price, not a confirmed sale price.
What is not publishedThis yacht is pre-delivery, with delivery expected in 2027 - so there is no sea trial data, no independent press sea-going review, and no genuine owner or captain report of any kind yet. Generator specification, thruster specification, watermaker capacity, engine-room layout, and classification society remain undisclosed pending completion.

Pour qui: The owner entering the Admiral fleet who hosts two families at once, wants owner-grade cabins for both, and values shallow-draft freedom and waterline living over headline speed.
