Sirena 48 Coupe

The 48 Coupe takes the entry model's Frers hull and three cabin interior and swaps the flybridge for a low, curved hardtop set with glass and solar cells. Its 2024 Cannes world premiere came in series hybrid form, reported by Motor Boat and Yachting as likely the first series hybrid drivetrain in a production motor yacht, and it left the show with the World Yachts Trophies Hybrid Yacht Trophy. A conventional diesel version is offered alongside.

Losing the flybridge on purpose

Removing the flybridge is usually a styling decision. Here it is an engineering one. The coupe roof cuts weight and windage and lowers the centre of gravity, all of which pays directly into the efficiency of the electric drive, and its long, gently curved surface exists partly to carry solar cells. The resulting profile is the sportiest in the Sirena catalogue, visibly lower than the flybridge 48 on the identical hull.

The saloon is the interior beneficiary. Glazing and skylights in the coach roof pull daylight into the main deck in a way the flybridge boat cannot match, and the deleted staircase returns floor area to the living space. What an owner gives up is the upper helm and the flybridge social deck, which is why the catalogue keeps both 48s side by side and lets cruising style make the choice.

The series hybrid first

The headline version runs a series hybrid drivetrain developed with e-Motion. Twin 213 kW electric motors turn the shafts at all times, and the diesels have no mechanical connection to the drivetrain at all, working purely as variable speed generators feeding the motors and a 78.2 kWh battery bank. Top speed in this configuration is 14 knots, with six to six and a half knots as the natural electric cruising gait.

On batteries alone the Coupe covers about 30 nautical miles in silence, enough to glide out of a harbour and into the next anchorage with no exhaust and no engine note, while the solar roof feeds the banks whenever the sun is out. With the generators contributing, range extends to about 350 nautical miles at 6.5 knots, and the yard cites fuel savings of up to 35 percent with maintenance costs 10 to 15 percent lower.

Thirty miles of silence on batteries, with a solar roof topping up the banks at anchor.

Or the same boat in plain diesel

Owners who want the roofline without the propulsion experiment can have the Coupe with the flybridge 48's Cummins pairs, 550 hp as standard or 670 hp on option. The lighter, slipperier coupe body actually improves the numbers a touch, with 24.4 knots standard and 27.5 from the bigger engines, and 490 nautical miles at ten knots against the flybridge boat's 477, all from the same 1,900 litres of fuel.

Certification stays CE Category B and the running experience stays classic Sirena, a semi-displacement Frers hull that is content at ten knots and unstressed in the mid twenties. The choice between drivetrains mostly comes down to cruising grounds and temperament, how many nights the boat will spend at anchor and how much the silence is worth.

Same three cabins, different light

The accommodation carries over from the flybridge 48 unchanged, a full-beam master amidships, a VIP forward and a third guest cabin, six berths in all with two heads and the same optional aft crew cabin with its own head. The hybrid installation takes nothing from the living space, because the battery banks and generators package into the machinery volume the conventional boat already reserves for its engines.

What changes is atmosphere. The glazed roof shifts the saloon from a room with windows towards something closer to a conservatory, and in electric mode the boat moves with no engine note at all, which rewires the experience of a dawn departure or a quiet swim stop. Guests notice the silence before anything else, and the hybrid case ultimately rests on it.

Cannes 2024, a trophy, and a direction

The Coupe Hybrid made its world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2024 and won the Hybrid Yacht Trophy at the World Yachts Trophies during the show, an award given to the yacht that best expresses the hybrid idea. For a yard that built its reputation on range and low noise, a drivetrain that extends both was a natural flag to plant, and planting it on the entry model puts the technology where the volume is.

The direction is already spreading, with a hybrid package now on the options list of the new 60, and the Coupe roof itself was conceived from the start to work with conventional power, so the experiment is hedged in both directions. Early buyers get the first series hybrid Sirena, and a boat whose whole architecture, roof, solar, battery and hull, was drawn around the drivetrain from the first sketch.

Pour qui: An owner drawn to silent anchorages and harbour arrivals with no exhaust, who wants the brand's efficiency logic pushed to its conclusion and accepts 14 knots as the hybrid's ceiling.
