About the yard

Turin's answer to scale

Azimut Yachts sits at the centre of the Azimut-Benetti Group, the Italian house that the Boat International Global Order Book ranks as the world's largest builder of motor yachts by number of hulls and total length under construction. The company traces back to 1969, when Paolo Vitelli started a chartering venture as a student in Turin, and it grew into a builder that now spans roughly nine to 110 metres across the Azimut and Benetti marques. In 1985 the group absorbed Benetti of Viareggio, a yard whose own story reaches back to 1873. The result is a family-owned business with reach across Europe and the Americas and a production footprint of six yards.

What sets Azimut apart within its group is scale at the premium end of the market. The brand builds series yachts in meaningful numbers, which gives a buyer a proven platform along with the finish expected higher up the market. Giovanna Vitelli now chairs the group and has made sustainability and Asia-Pacific growth central themes of its plans. For the 2024 to 2025 period the group guided towards revenue near 1.5 billion euros with an order book stretching to the end of the decade.

Weight taken out up high

Much of Azimut's engineering identity comes from its Avigliana headquarters at the foot of the Alps, where the group both moulds composite parts and assembles finished Azimut yachts. Large hulls are vacuum infused in a single operation, and over the years the process has folded carbon fibre in alongside glass. Carbon goes into the upper sections of each boat, which lowers weight above the centre of gravity and improves stability at sea. For models of sixty feet and above the entire superstructure is carbon, a choice the yard says removes about thirty per cent of that structure's weight.

The group markets this approach as its Carbon-Tech Generation, and an in-house oven post-cures the carbon parts so the yard controls quality from raw cloth to finished panel. The weight it saves feeds directly into speed and long-range comfort. More recently Azimut has layered electrification on top of the composite work. The Seadeck range introduced a mild hybrid arrangement with a lithium battery bank that powers domestic loads at anchor without a running generator.

One badge, several characters

Azimut spreads its motor yachts across several distinct families, each aimed at a different way of using the water. The Flybridge collection covers the classic three-level cruiser with an upper helm and sun deck. The S Collection turns towards sport, with low coupe profiles and carbon construction built for higher speeds. The Grande series carries the flagship megayacht work, running from yachts in the mid-thirties of metres up to the 44M, with dimensions quoted in metres to signal their place in the superyacht bracket.

Alongside these sit the more specialised lines. Magellano is the long-range branch, a semi-displacement cruiser conceived with designer Ken Freivokh for owners who value sea-keeping and distance. Seadeck is the newest arrival, a hybrid-electric lifestyle range built around open, beach-style living areas and the group's low-emission technology. Smaller sport lines such as Atlantis and Verve round out the offer for buyers entering the brand. Across every family the shared thread is Italian styling and the group's composite know-how.
