Where the 132E sits in the Maxi Open range

The Mangusta 132 first appeared in 2015 as a modern take on the fast open yacht that made the yard famous, and it soon became one of Overmarine's most requested platforms. In 2024 the in house engineering office restyled the boat and launched the first 132E, a cleaner and more contemporary version of the original. At just over 40 metres it lands between the 104 REV below it and the 165 REV flagship above. That puts it in the sweet spot of the Maxi Open family, large enough for a week away yet compact enough to run with a small crew.

The E in the name marks the restyling work and not a new hull, so the boat keeps the fast composite platform that buyers already knew and trusted. Several of the original 132 hulls reached the water before the switch, which gave the yard a clear read on what owners wanted improved. The refresh sharpened the profile and reworked the deck layout for the way these yachts are actually used. Owners stepping up from an earlier 80 or 92 open boat find the 132E a very natural move.

A profile that looks fast on the mooring

The 132E wears the long low superstructure and raked bow that have defined the Maxi Open since the beginning. Wide glazing runs down the hull sides and around the main deck, so the boat reads as one continuous fast line from any angle. The open cockpit flows straight into the saloon through a full width door, turning the aft deck into an extension of the living space. A generous sun pad area aft sits above the engine room and gives sunbathers a clear stretch of teak at anchor.

Detailing across the exterior follows the sporting brief without turning cold. The foredeck carries a sun lounge and seating for lazy mornings before the day gets going, and side terraces open the main deck to the water when the boat is stopped. Teak, painted composite and polished stainless are handled with the restraint owners expect at this level. Everything on deck is drawn to make the boat feel quick even before the engines start.

Five cabins under an open deck

Below deck the 132E carries up to 11 guests across five cabins, a real gain on the smaller open boats in the range. A full beam owner's suite takes the widest part of the hull, with VIP and further guest cabins arranged forward and to the sides. Hull windows bring daylight deep into the lower deck so the space never feels closed in. Crew of six live in three separate cabins, which keeps service discreet on a boat this size.

The interior is handled by Alberto Mancini working with the Overmarine design office, and every 132E is treated as a semi custom project. Owners set the layout, the woods, the stone and the leathers to suit how they cruise. The main deck saloon can be opened up for entertaining or closed down for quiet passages. Light materials and pale surfaces keep the mood relaxed and modern throughout.

Three engines and triple waterjet drive

The 132E runs on three MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines of 2,600 hp each, feeding a bank of Kamewa waterjets. Two main jets sit outboard with a central booster jet between them, a layout that gives both strong cruising manners and a real top end. Top speed sits around 35 knots at half load, with a fast cruise near 30 knots. Range at that pace is close to 520 nautical miles, which suits fast hops between coastlines and islands.

Waterjet drive is the signature of the open range and it earns its place here. With no shafts or propellers hanging below the hull the boat draws very little water, so shallow anchorages and beach approaches open up that keep bigger yachts offshore. The jets also make the 132E agile at low speed, easy to spin and berth for an owner who likes to take the helm. The single skin composite hull keeps weight down and helps the boat get onto the plane cleanly.
