The sale that moved Tankoa up a class

Tankoa confirmed the T720 Fenice sale in March 2026, with the client introduced by owner's representative Matt Von Bishop and Jean-Claude Carme of TWW Yachts. The buyer is American, and the yard was open about what that means, a deliberate push into the United States market that had already taken the first T450, Go, to a US owner. For Tankoa the contract plants a flag in the 70 metre plus segment where only a handful of yards compete.

The delivery date of 2030 tells its own story. A four year build at a yard producing a few hulls a year means the project absorbs serious capacity, and Tankoa is expanding into its new Civitavecchia production hub partly to carry work of this scale. When she arrives, the T720 will match the 72 metre Casino Royale, delivered in 2018 as Solo, as the largest Tankoa afloat.

The Fenice line, from concept to contract

Fenice is the family name for Tankoa's collaboration with Enrico Gobbi's Team for Design. The 68 metre T680 Fenice was revealed in 2022, and the 52 metre T520 Fenice followed at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show, named after the Venice opera house and drawing on automotive and aeronautical shapes. The T720 grows directly out of that design work, stretched and reworked around one owner's brief.

That progression matters to a buyer weighing a custom project. The T720 is a one-off, but it descends from a design family the studio and the yard have iterated for years, so the proportions, structure and systems thinking arrive tested. For the exterior of a yacht this size the designer's job is proportion above all, keeping four or five decks of volume looking lean, and the Fenice concepts have been praised precisely for that discipline.

The interior is entrusted to Giorgio Cassetta, the Rome-based designer who styled Tankoa's T450 series inside and out. Splitting exterior and interior between two studios is a classic full-custom move, letting the owner pick the precise sensibility for each. Cassetta's Tankoa interiors so far have favoured calm, light-filled spaces over spectacle, a good match for an owner planning long private use.

What full custom means at Sestri Ponente

Tankoa's platforms are semi-custom, but Diamond Binta proved in 2024 that the yard will engineer a one-off from the keel up, and the T720 takes that capability to 72 metres. Full custom at this size buys the owner everything, hull form, deck count, tender capacity, spa and pool arrangement, all set by the brief instead of by an existing platform. The yard's boutique scale keeps the owner's team in direct contact with engineering throughout.

The build will run under the eyes of an owner's representative, the standard structure for projects of this value, and the involvement of Von Bishop and TWW from the introduction onward suggests an experienced client. Tankoa has delivered award winners before, Solo took a Game Changer Award and a RINA Green Plus Platinum notation, and the T720 is positioned to continue that engineering line.

For anyone considering a large Tankoa, the T720 contract is useful evidence. It shows the yard winning against the established 70 metre plus builders on a full-custom brief, and it shows an American owner trusting a Genoa yard with a four year, top-of-market project. Slots around a build like this are finite, which affects anyone hoping to place a 55 to 70 metre order in the same window.
