22XP

The 22XP is the doorway into the Numarine world, a 22.6 metre mini explorer launched in Istanbul in 2022 and shown officially at that September's Cannes Yachting Festival. Developed as a smaller companion to the 26XP, she condenses the range's character into a boat a couple can own without ceremony, with up to eight guest berths, two crew and 1,200 nautical miles of range from an eight month build.

The smallest silhouette in the family

When Numarine launched the first 22XP in 2022, the trade press reached for the phrase mini expedition yacht, and the boat earns it. The vertical bow, the deep bulwarks, the muscular wheelhouse mass, every visual cue of the 37XP and 45XP survives the compression to 22.6 metres. Moored stern to in Yalikavak or Porto Montenegro, she reads unmistakably as the big boats' sister, which was exactly the assignment when the yard framed her as the entry point to the XP series.

The design team's brief was to condense the 26XP into the smaller package, and the published result kept a remarkable amount, three or four cabins, a proper crew cabin, tender handling and the high, protected foredeck. The official debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2022 slotted her in as the entry model of the XP series, a role she still holds.

Sized for ownership, not administration

At 22.6 metres with a 6 metre beam and a 1.84 metre draft, the 22XP sits firmly in owner run territory. CE Category B certification covers offshore cruising, a single crew cabin berths two for owners who want help with washdowns and watches, and everything from berthing fees to insurance prices at motor yacht scale instead of superyacht scale, a difference that in most Mediterranean marinas is measured in multiples.

This is the point of the boat. The typical 22XP owner is buying freedom from the apparatus of yachting, no management company, no rotational crew, no class surveys, while keeping the ability to take six or eight people to the islands for a month. The step up path through the range exists when appetite grows, and the yard's order history shows owners take it.

Every visual cue of the 45 metre flagships, compressed into 74 feet a couple can run themselves.

Displacement thinking at picnic boat length

Standard power is a pair of 425 horsepower Cummins diesels running in intermittent duty, good for 13 knots flat out and an easy 11 knot cruise, with a much stronger MAN option of 1,200 horsepower each listed for owners who want pace. At 8 knots the 6,000 litre fuel capacity delivers 1,200 nautical miles, several times what planing yachts of this length carry in practice.

The range figure reframes what a 22 metre boat is for. Twelve hundred miles covers Bodrum to Venice or Palma to Athens with margin, so the summer becomes one long itinerary instead of a series of fuel stops. Burning displacement quantities of diesel at 8 knots, the 22XP also runs at a fraction of the hourly cost of the fast flybridge yachts she competes against.

Eight berths on 74 feet

Accommodation offers three or four cabins for six to eight guests, an unusual density at this length made possible by the full height hull and the volume forward that the vertical bow buys. The interior carries the family's oversized glazing and pale contemporary schemes, and the flybridge and foredeck provide the outdoor acreage the XP look promises.

With four cabins occupied she works as a family boat with grandparents aboard, with three she gives an owner couple a study and guests a proper suite. The crew cabin converts the boat from weekender to season boat, one professional aboard keeping systems, provisioning and passages running while the owner keeps the wheel.

The nursery of the fleet

Numarine's own deliveries tell the 22XP's best story. The first owner of the 27XP, the yacht two rungs up the ladder, came to it from a 22XP, exactly the progression the range was designed to produce. The entry boat wins owners to the explorer idea at manageable cost, and the yard keeps them as they grow.

An eight month build time means a 22XP ordered in autumn cruises the following summer, about as close to instant gratification as new construction gets. For owners auditioning the explorer life before committing superyacht money, or downsizing from crewed yachts without giving up the look and the seakeeping, she is the most reversible decision in the catalogue.

A chi si rivolge: A couple or young family who want the explorer stance and seakeeping without crew politics or superyacht overheads, cruising whole summers on itineraries they run themselves, with the option to step up the XP ladder later.
