Ferretti Yachts grew out of a business the Ferretti brothers, Alessandro and Norberto, started in Bologna in 1968. The pair came from a family car dealership that sold marques such as Maserati and Lamborghini, and they added boats to the trade. They showed their first yacht of their own design, a 10 metre wooden motorsailer, at the Genoa Boat Show in 1971. By 1982 the yard had moved to power and launched its first luxury motor yacht series.
Over the decades that followed, the planing flybridge motor yacht became the brand's signature. The house style settled into clean exterior lines, generous glazing and a raised flybridge social deck, a language now led by the designer Filippo Salvetti. The model names approximate length in feet, so the 500 runs near 15 metres and the 1000 near 30. That consistent identity runs from the entry boats up to the 30 metre flagship.
Ferretti Yachts is the founding brand of the Ferretti Group, an Italian builder that now owns several famous yards. The group's portfolio includes Riva, Pershing, Itama, CRN, Custom Line, Wally and Mochi Craft alongside Ferretti Yachts. It grew through acquisitions from the late 1990s, taking in CRN in 1999 and Riva in 2000 among others. That scale gives Ferretti Yachts a deep engineering and service base to draw on.
Ownership has changed with the group's fortunes. China's Weichai Power holds the majority stake, and in 2016 Piero Ferrari, son of Enzo Ferrari, bought into the company through his family holding. Naval architecture for the Ferretti Yachts range comes from the group engineering department, with interiors from studios such as Ideaeitalia. The shared resources let each brand keep its own character while pooling development.
In 2023 Ferretti Yachts opened a new direction with the Infynito line, launched with the Infynito 90 at Cannes. The line steps away from the pace of the flybridge boats towards long range and lower emissions. It introduced the group's F.S.E.A. technology, short for Ferretti Sustainable Enhanced Architecture. The concept came from the Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari with the engineering department.
The sustainability package pairs photovoltaic panels producing up to 7.3 kilowatts with a 120 kilowatt-hour lithium energy bank. Together they let the yacht sit at anchor in hotel mode for up to eight hours with zero emissions, and Ferretti claims an 80 per cent fuel saving in typical summer use. Green materials such as FSC-certified teak, bamboo fabrics and regenerated leather run through the build. The Infynito line marks how the brand reads the future of cruising.
