Motores y sistemas
| Main engines | Twin MTU 20V4000M73L diesels. Lo que cuentan armadores y tripulaciones
Owner reported (not officially confirmed) as WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum
SuperYachtFan, Luxurylaunches and The Gentleman's Journal all identify Moonrise as built for and owned by Jan Koum, who sold WhatsApp to Facebook for $19 billion in 2014. Neither Feadship, Burgess nor Edmiston name an owner in their own listing or sale material, so this remains third-party trade/press reporting rather than an owner-confirmed or yard-confirmed fact.
SuperYachtFanSeller's broker's own description of the yacht at listing
When Moonrise joined the brokerage market, Burgess senior broker Henry Craven-Smith was quoted calling her one of the most iconic Feadships and, in a second phrasing carried elsewhere, an iconic vessel that has been meticulously maintained where opportunities to acquire a yacht of this calibre rarely come to market. This is the seller's own brokerage's promotional description, not an independent appraisal.
Henry Craven-SmithYard's own account of the acoustic engineering
Feadship's official fleet page states huge effort was expended keeping Moonrise exceptionally quiet, eclipsing even Feadship's legendary standards. This is the builder's own marketing description of its own work, not an independently verified acoustic test result.
FeadshipReported reason the original Moonrise was put up for sale
Luxurylaunches reports that Koum commissioned a larger, 101m successor also named Moonrise (delivered 2025, with more owner-deck privacy and Starlink-integrated communications) and then listed the original 2020 vessel for sale. Koum has made no public statement on his own motivation; this is the outlet's reporting, not a confirmed owner account.
LuxurylaunchesSale reported as one of the largest brokerage transactions of 2026
SuperYachtTimes and Boat International both describe the July 2026 sale (Burgess representing the seller, Edmiston's Bruce Brakenhoff representing the buyer) as among the year's largest brokerage deals, while both outlets explicitly state the final price was not disclosed by either brokerage.

Puntos fuertes
- Award-winning pedigreeWon the Displacement Motor Yachts 3,000GT and Above category at the 2021 World Superyacht Awards, confirmed by Yacht Harbour's awards coverage.
- Sold fast for a nine-figure assetPer Boat International and SuperYachtTimes, Moonrise formally joined the brokerage market in January 2026 and sold in under six months - a strong demand signal for a six-year-old yacht at the very top of the market.
- Reported acoustic/engineering standoutFeadship's own launch materials, echoed by Robb Report and Yachts International, describe noise and vibration attenuation exceeding the yard's already strict internal benchmarks - a feature reportedly carried forward and refined in her 2025 successor.
- Design heritage and rarityAt delivery she was the largest superyacht by waterline length ever built in the Netherlands; the Studio De Voogt exterior and Remi Tessier interior pairing is repeatedly described by brokers as a rare, iconic combination unlikely to come to market often.
A tener en cuenta
- Actual sale price was never officially confirmedBurgess, Edmiston, Boat International and SuperYachtTimes all state the final price was undisclosed, while Luxurylaunches and autoevolution report a figure of roughly $370-372 million - a number that is inconsistent with (and higher than) the last published EUR 325 million asking price. This is a genuine unreconciled discrepancy, not a rounding artifact.
- Public specifications disagree across sourcesReported range varies from over 4,500 nm (SuperYachtFan) to 6,000 nm (Boat International/Burgess/Gentleman's Journal) to 8,184 nm at 16 knots on Feadship's own official page. Top speed is likewise given as both 18.5 knots and 19.5 knots depending on the outlet. No single figure can be confirmed as authoritative.
- Superseded almost immediately by a near-identical, larger sister shipKoum's own 2025 successor (also named Moonrise, 101m) reportedly corrected visible aspects of the original's design, including eliminating exposed satellite-dome housings on the mast and adding a dedicated owner's deck and integrated Starlink architecture, implying the 2020 vessel had real, owner-acknowledged limitations.
- Owner identity rests entirely on unofficial reportingThe Jan Koum ownership narrative comes only from trade and lifestyle press (SuperYachtFan, Luxurylaunches, The Gentleman's Journal); no shipyard or brokerage document names an owner, consistent with a reportedly privacy-conscious buyer but leaving the headline billionaire-owner claim unverifiable from primary sources.
- Six years old in a fast-moving segmentDelivered in 2020, and by the time of her 2026 sale her own direct successor had already reworked communications and layout details reported as dated on the original, underscoring that even a flagship-grade Feadship shows its age within one ownership cycle.
