Marina Botafoch (Ibiza)

Botafoch sits directly across the harbour mouth from Dalt Vila, Ibiza's walled old town, and its 428 berths make it the largest single marina in Ibiza Town by slip count - though its own published range tops out at 30 m, well short of the 110 m Marina Ibiza quotes just across the water.

The largest marina in Ibiza Town, by slips rather than by size

That distinction is easy to miss on a first search, because both marinas sit inside the same harbour and both are routinely described as Ibiza Town's yacht berths. Botafoch is the higher-volume, mid-size address; Marina Ibiza is the one built for the largest superyachts calling at the island. An owner comparing the two on LOA alone should look past the shared postcode, and a charter broker quoting either marina by name alone, without confirming which side of the harbour mouth a specific berth sits on, has not actually confirmed the vessel fits.

Every one of Botafoch's 428 berths carries its own individually metered water and electricity connection, plus telephone and wireless internet - a level of per-berth metering that is more typical of a marina built and expanded steadily since the 1980s than one designed from scratch for today's larger charter fleet.

What is actually on site

The dual role as both yacht marina and ferry port is a genuine practical consideration: Botafoch's basin sees scheduled ferry traffic in and out on top of leisure and charter boat movements, which is a different rhythm from a marina that handles only private vessels. It also means the surrounding quay carries the infrastructure of a working transport hub, not only a leisure destination, and a first-time arrival should expect genuine commercial traffic sharing the fairway rather than a purely recreational basin.

On-site shipyard facilities and refuelling cover the basics of a working stay, though this desk could not independently source a published 2026 tariff for berthing, electricity or water from Botafoch's own materials - an owner or captain should request current rates directly rather than rely on any third-party estimate, including this one.

Look across the water from Botafoch after dark and the whole reason people come to Ibiza Town by boat is standing there lit up: a fortress old town with nowhere else in the Balearics quite like it.

The view the whole harbour is built around

Dalt Vila's cathedral and fortress walls are lit after dark and visible from essentially every berth on the Botafoch side of the harbour, which is a real amenity rather than a marketing description: a walk across the harbour bridge or a short water-taxi puts a guest inside the old town's restaurants and bars within minutes.

That proximity is also Botafoch's implicit pitch against the larger, more expensive Marina Ibiza berths directly across the water: the view and the walk into town are identical from either side of the harbour mouth, so a yacht within Botafoch's 30 m ceiling gets the same Dalt Vila outlook without needing Marina Ibiza's largest-berth pricing. It is a genuinely rare arrangement in the Mediterranean, where the best view in a harbour is usually reserved for whoever pays the most for the largest berth, rather than shared equally across an entire basin regardless of yacht size.

What Ibiza berthing has actually cost, and why last decade's numbers are not this decade's

That gap is worth stating rather than papering over: this desk could not source a current, marina-specific 2026 tariff for Botafoch through official channels, and the most detailed independent pricing record available for the region predates the current season by years. Mediterranean berthing costs have moved considerably since 2020, when even a budget Costa Blanca berth for a 10 m boat ran EUR 52-93 a night in high season, and general Mediterranean marina inflation since then has run well ahead of that already-steep 2020 baseline in most reporting this desk could find, driven in large part by exactly the kind of sustained charter demand Ibiza itself generates every summer.

The honest planning approach for an owner is to treat any pre-2024 published Ibiza rate as a floor, not a forecast, and to request Botafoch's current tariff directly before budgeting a season - which is exactly what this desk recommends doing rather than repeating an outdated number publicly as though it still held true today.

The season Ibiza is actually built around

Outside that window, Ibiza Town quiets down considerably and a Botafoch berth is a different proposition entirely: fewer crowds, a slower harbour, and the same Dalt Vila view without the peak-season competition for a slip. An owner with scheduling flexibility gets meaningfully more out of Botafoch in the shoulder months either side of the summer peak than in it.

None of that changes the underlying size limit: whatever the season and whatever the going rate turns out to be, a yacht over roughly 30 to 50 m still needs to look to Marina Ibiza rather than Botafoch, and the marina's own published berth range is the first thing to confirm before assuming a slip is available at all.

The wind that actually decides an Ibiza Town approach

Botafoch's basin, tucked behind the harbour breakwater, is more sheltered from both than an open roadstead mooring would be, which is itself part of the case for booking a proper berth here rather than anchoring off during a fast-moving Balearic blow. That shelter is a genuine, practical reason to choose a marina berth in this part of the Mediterranean beyond the obvious convenience of shore power and a gangway.

None of this is unique to Botafoch - it applies to Marina Ibiza and every other Ibiza Town berth as much as to Botafoch - but it is the kind of regional weather knowledge that belongs in any honest account of what berthing in Ibiza Town actually involves, alongside the harbour-mouth traffic and the Dalt Vila view. A first-time visitor relying only on a charter broker's itinerary, rather than an actual forecast check before departure, is the most common way a Balearic passage goes wrong.

Provisioning and agents, once the boat is tied up

Because Botafoch has operated continuously since 1987, the agents, fuel suppliers and chandlers who work the harbour know its berths and its shipyard facility specifically, rather than treating it as a newly arrived, unfamiliar marina. That institutional familiarity is worth something in itself: a captain calling ahead gets a marina and a support network that already knows how the basin works, rather than a new operation still learning its own quay.

The trade-off is that Ibiza Town in peak season is also one of the most in-demand provisioning and agent markets in the Mediterranean, competing for the same suppliers and technicians that every other charter yacht in the harbour wants that week - another reason the shoulder-season months either side of July and August are the easier time to get both a berth and prompt service. A captain who has never worked Ibiza Town before should budget extra lead time for anything booked in the first two weeks of August specifically, when the whole island's service capacity is stretched hardest.

Formentera is the day trip Botafoch is actually built for

That pattern - base in Ibiza Town, day-trip to Formentera - is common enough among charter itineraries that it is worth stating as a straightforward planning fact rather than a marketing angle: Formentera's own anchorages and small marinas do not offer anything like Botafoch's berth count, services or shipyard access, so a yacht based at Botafoch gets both the working infrastructure and the day-sail option in one berth.

The Freus channel between the two islands is generally a short, sheltered crossing in settled weather, but it still sits inside the same Tramontana-and-Levante wind pattern discussed above, so the same regional weather awareness that governs a Botafoch approach also governs whether a Formentera day trip is a comfortable idea on a given day. A captain planning the crossing for guests rather than for the boat's own convenience should build in a genuine weather-hold contingency day either side of the trip, rather than treating the short distance on the chart as a guarantee of a short, comfortable crossing regardless of conditions.

Points de vigilance

  • A firm 30 m ceiling on most berthsAn owner on a genuine superyacht needs to look to Marina Ibiza, directly across the water, instead.
  • No published 2026 tariffThis desk could not source current berthing rates from Botafoch's own materials; budgeting requires a direct call.
  • Shared water with scheduled ferry trafficThe same basin handles passenger ferry movements alongside leisure and charter boats.
