Entretenimiento a bordo

The screens, and where they can go
Bang & Olufsen televisions are partly kinetic. The Beovision Harmony opens wooden wings as it powers up, and that motion needs clearance and a fixing that will hold through a beam sea. On a yacht the useful questions are whether the screen can be recessed, whether it can be lifted from a cabinet, and what happens to the mechanism when the boat rolls at anchor.
There is a second and less obvious issue. A large gloss screen facing a saloon window is unwatchable at four in the afternoon in the Mediterranean, and the yacht's designer usually wins that argument on sightlines. Placing the screens is an interior design decision made months before the equipment is ordered, and it is the one that decides whether the system gets used.
Warranty, spares and a failure in season
Most Bang & Olufsen products carry a three-year limited warranty, with 24 months on the on-the-go range. Outside the European Union, Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland the standard term drops to one year unless the product is registered in the company's app, which extends it to three. On a yacht bought through a Gulf or American dealer, that registration is the difference between a covered failure and an invoice.
In practice the integrator is the warranty. The equipment is consumer stock available worldwide, so replacing a soundbar in Fort Lauderdale or Palma is straightforward, and getting a bespoke rack rebuilt is not. Keep the integrator's as-built drawings aboard and make sure the yacht's engineer has them, because the crew member who understands the system is usually the one who left last winter.
Against the specialists
The competition splits in two. On the marine side, K-array and L-Acoustics build genuinely marine-specified systems and will cover the whole yacht including the exposed decks. On the domestic high-end side sit the audiophile houses that will out-perform B&O on pure sound for the money and lose on the way the equipment looks in a finished interior.
What Bang & Olufsen actually sells is an object a designer is happy to leave visible. That is a real thing to want and it is not free, and an owner should be honest with himself about whether he is buying the sound or the aluminium. A saloon where the speakers are meant to disappear into the joinery is not a B&O saloon.
Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere
It suits an owner with a modern interior of glass and pale surfaces where the equipment is meant to be seen, on a yacht built by a yard that already has a certified integrator in the supply chain. Ferretti's Custom Line and Sunseeker both fall into that description, which is why the documented installations sit there.
It does not suit an owner who wants a single audio brand from the beach club to the sundeck, an owner buying a yacht that will live at anchor in the tropics with the generators off, or an owner whose priority is measured performance for the money. Each of those points to a marine specialist or to an audiophile house instead.
Información práctica
| Reference price, home range | Standard Beolab 90: USD 211,800 a pair. Centenary Monarch and Zenith Atelier editions: USD 450,000 a pair, limited to ten pairs each, per Man of Many and HotHardware, April 2026. |
|---|---|
| How it gets specified | Only through a certified integrator, never bought direct for a yacht; Videoworks brought the brand into Ferretti Group's Custom Line range in 2026, and Sunseeker offered it as a factory option a decade earlier. |
| A real delivered example | M/Y Telli, Custom Line Navetta 38, launched January 2024 and delivered that April: Beosound Theatre and Beolab 19 inside, K-array and James loudspeakers on the open decks. |
| Weatherproof range | Beosound Explore and Beosound A1 are IP67 to a metre of fresh water for thirty minutes; B&O's own support pages exclude salt or ionised water, so nothing in the marine catalogue is rated for an open deck. |
| Not published | Any yacht-specific installation or integration package price; the split between equipment cost and the certified integrator's labour; and any marine-specific warranty terms distinct from the home product warranty. |
Lo que cuentan armadores y tripulaciones
The one named, delivered yacht install confirms the brand is genuinely in service, not just a brochure option
M/Y Telli, a Custom Line Navetta 38 owned by Ferretti Group chief executive Alberto Galassi, launched in January 2024 and was delivered that April with a Beosound Theatre and Beolab 19 subwoofer specified for the saloon. Per Videoworks's Giovanni Varone, the owner's brief was for a high powered audio system alongside fast Starlink connectivity for streaming and pay-per-view, a request the integrator called more typical of 60 or 70 metre yachts than a boat this size.

Lo bueno y lo que conviene vigilar
Puntos fuertes
- A hundred years of acoustic and industrial-design pedigree, still trading at a record gross marginThe 2025/26 accounts published 2 July 2026 show a record gross margin of 58.2 percent even as revenue dipped, which is the kind of number that matters to an owner asking whether a niche electronics brand will still be making parts for this system in fifteen years.
- It genuinely reaches below the superyacht bracket nowThe Telli installation put a flagship B&O home-theatre system on a 38.76 m yacht, smaller than the 60 to 70 m range Videoworks says this scale of system usually goes on, which means the brand is no longer only a mega-yacht fixture.
A tener en cuenta
- It will not follow the owner onto the sundeckBang & Olufsen's own support pages state its IP67 weatherproof certification covers fresh water only, not the salt or ionised water an open deck sees, so the same yacht that carries Beolab in the saloon needs a second, marine-rated brand outside, as Telli does with its K-array deck speakers.
- The price sits far outside ordinary marine-audio budgets, before installationThe standard Beolab 90 lists at USD 211,800 a pair, and the centenary Monarch and Zenith editions, limited to ten pairs each, are priced at USD 450,000 a pair, per Man of Many and HotHardware, April 2026 - and none of that includes the certified integrator's design and installation fee, which is not published anywhere.
- You are really buying the integrator, and B&O will not stand behind that choiceBecause Bang & Olufsen sells only through certified partners such as Videoworks, the day-to-day reliability of the system and who answers the phone in August rests with the integrator's own service organisation, not with Bang & Olufsen directly.
