The pool that redefined the aft deck
When Nirvana launched in 2012, her 7.5 metre aft deck pool was not just large, it was a first for her builder. It was the first fibreglass pool Oceanco had ever fabricated in house, and at the time of delivery it was the largest pool fitted to any Oceanco yacht, a benchmark other yards would spend years chasing. Depth is adjustable, running from a shallow lounging shelf up to 1.4 metres, and the pool can be filled with fresh or seawater depending on where she is cruising, a detail that matters more than it sounds, since a seawater fill saves tank capacity on longer Mediterranean or Middle East legs.
The engineering choice reflects Nirvana's broader brief: a yacht built around an active lifestyle at sea, not a static showpiece, as Boat International's build coverage described it. The pool sits at the physical and social centre of the aft deck, the space guests actually live in for most of a charter day, rather than being tucked away as an afterthought. For a vessel whose interior leans deliberately theatrical, with rainforest materials, live vivariums and a woven steel glass lift, the pool is the one feature that reads as pure, unpretentious engineering, and it has arguably done more to keep Nirvana's name current in brokerage circles a decade on than any single interior flourish.
Motores y sistemas
| Engines | Twin MTU 20V 4000 M73L diesels, roughly 4,828 to 4,830 hp (3,600 kW) combined, confirmed independently by YachtCharterFleet and YachtBuyer. One aggregator listing states that output per engine rather than combined, which looks like a data error and is not used. |
|---|---|
| Generators | One main MTU/DDC Series 2000 generator plus a Volvo Penta D9 emergency genset, per YachtCharterFleet. A single main generator is a lean spec for an 88.5 metre yacht with 27 crew, which may reflect incomplete published data rather than the literal system fitted. |
| Stabilisers | Rolls-Royce Aquarius 100 stabilisers plus at anchor stabilisation, confirmed on two sources. |
| Bow thruster | A Jastram BU50F unit rated at 300 kW, reported on a single source and not independently corroborated. |
| Tankage | Approximately 285,000 litres of fuel and 80,000 litres of fresh water, with two brokers converging closely on both figures. A third source's claim of 172,000 litres of fresh water contradicts that consensus and is treated as an outlier. |
| Speed and range | Genuinely unresolved across sources: one cluster of brokers reports a 16 knot cruise, 19.5 knot maximum and 6,800 nautical mile range at 14 knots, while another reports a 20 knot maximum and roughly 14.2 knot cruise. No two independent sources agree exactly, so treat any single figure as approximate. |
| Watermaker | Not published by any broker or press source found. |
Lo que cuentan armadores y tripulaciones
Sam Sorgiovanni on the design brief
Unique, individual and stylistically different are all words that come to mind when describing my objectives in the creation of the design. Anastasia had a beach house theme but the inspiration for Nirvana's design moves from the sandy shore into a tropical island rainforest.

Lo bueno y lo que conviene vigilar
Puntos fuertes
- A genuinely record setting poolThe 7.5 metre oval pool was the first fibreglass pool Oceanco built in house and the largest fitted to any Oceanco yacht at the time, confirmed by Boat International's build coverage.
- An unusually high crew to guest ratio27 crew for 12 guests, a ratio typical of top tier build and service quality rather than a mid size charter operation.
- A coherent, owner driven design briefExterior and interior both by Sam Sorgiovanni, giving her a single unified point of view rather than the more common split between a naval architect and a separate interior house.
- Industry recognition at launchNamed among Robb Report's Best of the Best in June 2013 and shortlisted at the International Yacht and Aviation Awards the same year.
A tener en cuenta
- A polarising interior themeThe tropical rainforest scheme, using close to 200 materials and live vivariums by Sorgiovanni's own account, is a distinctly narrower taste than a neutral contemporary interior and genuinely limits her appeal to buyers who want that specific aesthetic.
- A 2012 built hull now competing with newer launchesAt 14 years old she is up against 90 metre plus yachts with newer systems and better fuel efficiency.
- Published specifications disagree across brokersCruise speed is cited anywhere from 14 to 17 knots and range from 5,000 to 6,800 nautical miles depending on the listing, suggesting no single authoritative spec sheet currently circulates.
- A serious, concrete sanctions complicationThe December 2022 US blocked property designation on Nirvana and her owner is a real obstacle for any US connected broker or charter guest today, not a historical footnote.
Información práctica
| Charter rate | 900,000 euros a week through Y.CO, reported by Boat International in December 2021 (Marilyn Mower); Robb Report separately reported roughly 1 million US dollars a week for the same yacht. |
|---|---|
| Sanctions status | In December 2022 the US State Department designated Nirvana as blocked property and sanctioned her owner, Vladimir Potanin, chief executive of Nornickel, citing direct ties to the Russian government. This bars US persons and firms from any transaction involving the yacht. Yotters found no report that this designation has since been lifted; treat any current charter listing with that in mind. |
| Estimated running cost | 10 to 12 million US dollars a year, per SuperYachtFan; this figure comes from a single source and was not independently corroborated. |
| Build cost | Widely repeated in press as roughly 300 million US dollars, but this is a recycled figure rather than a single sourced number, so treat it as approximate. |
| Not published | The original purchase price, any refit cost or history, and current live charter availability given the sanctions designation. She has had one owner since her 2012 delivery, so no resale price exists to report. |
