Ampi ponti scendono a gradini verso l'acqua a poppa, aprendo spazio per tender, toys e vita all'aperto.

Motori e impianti

LengthThe model is branded '220' (i.e. 220ft/67.1m) and most broker listings (Romeo United Yachts, Northrop and Johnson, YATCO) give 67.1m/220'2". Boat International's on-board feature on the only confirmed hull, Aurora Borealis, states she was built 50cm longer than the standard 220 at 67.6m, and Amels' own fleet page for the renamed yacht (Neninka) also shows 67.6m. One aggregator page (a cached fetch of Amels' own '220' model page) showed an outlying 65.50m/215ft, which does not match any other source and looks like a template error. Wider agreement sits around 67.1m for the model as designed, 67.6m for the one delivered hull.
EnginesTwin Caterpillar 3516C diesels (agreed across Amels' own site, Romeo United Yachts, YachtCharterFleet, Boat International's directory entry, which only says 'two Caterpillar diesel engines' without a figure). Power is reported as 2 x 2,600hp on Romeo United Yachts and YachtCharterFleet (two independent listings agree); a separate aggregator figure of 2 x 2,682hp (2,000kW), described as the 3516C 'C04' variant, also turned up but could not be tied to a named publication - 2,600hp has the wider agreement.
GearboxesNot disclosed in any source reviewed (yard site, Boat International, brokerage listings). Propulsion is described only as conventional shaft drive.
Generators2 x 250kW + 1 x 200kW Caterpillar gensets, per Romeo United Yachts' spec sheets for the model. This figure appears identically on two separate Romeo United Yachts listing pages, which may be the same boilerplate rather than two independent confirmations - no other outlet (Boat International, Amels, Northrop and Johnson) publishes generator data, so treat as single-sourced.
StabilisersA zero-speed / underway-and-at-anchor stabilisation system is standard, confirmed by Amels' own site, Romeo United Yachts and Northrop and Johnson ('zero-speed stabilizers included'). None of these name the manufacturer or fin size.
ThrustersGeneric yacht-market summaries state a bow thruster is fitted as standard, but no primary source (Amels, Boat International, brokerage spec sheets) publishes thruster make, count, or power - effectively undisclosed.
WatermakerNot published by any source found - absent from the yard's own spec page, Boat International's directory entry, and all brokerage listings reviewed.
Fuel tankage157,600 litres - consistent across Amels' own site, Romeo United Yachts (both hull listings) and derived-range figures in Boat International and Yachting Magazine coverage. Strong agreement, no conflicting figure found.
Fresh water36,400 litres, corroborated by Romeo United Yachts and YachtCharterFleet independently.
Speed and rangeMost-repeated figures: 17 knots top speed, 12.5 knots cruise, 5,000nm range (Amels' own site, Romeo United Yachts, superyachts.com aggregation). Yachting Magazine/Northrop and Johnson instead give ~13 knots cruise, and Boat International's own directory entry for the renamed Neninka gives 16.5 knots top speed, 15.0 knots cruise, and 5,000nm at 12.8 knots - a genuine outlier from an otherwise authoritative publication. Boat International's separate feature article states cruising at roughly 13 knots on a single engine is most fuel-efficient. Wider agreement across sources favours 17kn top / 12.5kn cruise.
Hull and classificationDisplacement steel hull, aluminium superstructure, teak decks (Amels' own site, Boat International directory). Boat International's overview of the Amels Limited Editions range states the line is built to Lloyd's Register (100A1 SSC Yacht (P) Mono G6 + LMC UMS) as standard, but this is reported for the range generally, not confirmed hull-by-hull, so treat as the class notation Amels applies across Limited Editions rather than a verified per-hull certificate.

Cosa riferiscono armatori ed equipaggi

Cosa convince e cosa va valutato

Punti di forza

  • Distinctive, well-received designThe Tim Heywood exterior paired with Andrew Winch's ocean-liner-inspired interior drew a substantial dedicated feature and photo essay from Boat International, unusual depth of editorial coverage for a semi-custom yacht of this size.
  • Long range on modest propulsion5,000nm at economical cruise from twin CAT 3516Cs (a figure consistently agreed across every source) suits genuine ocean crossings without a third generator-driven get-home engine or unusually large tankage for the size.
  • Fast build cycle via the semi-custom platformBoat International reports Aurora Borealis went from order (mid-July 2016) to delivery in 32 months, faster than a fully custom yacht of similar size, while still allowing owner-driven changes such as the beach club addition and the 50cm stern extension.
  • Large social/outdoor space for the sizeAmels' own figures cite roughly 600 square metres of outdoor deck space against ~550 square metres interior, plus a 65 square metre swim platform/beach club - a genuine evolution over the earlier 212 model per Boat International's feature.

Da valutare

  • Thin and inconsistent technical disclosureBasic figures disagree across brokers and even Boat International's own pages - length is variously given as 65.5m, 67.1m and 67.6m, and cruise speed as 12.5, 13 or 15 knots depending on the source - while generator, thruster, gearbox and watermaker specs are essentially unpublished anywhere.
  • Market presence is effectively a single hullDespite '220' branding implying a broader model line (as with the 242 or 212), only one hull - Aurora Borealis/Neninka - is corroborated by the yard, class press and major titles; a second 'hull 002' appears only on brokerage aggregator pages with specs that duplicate the first hull's listing, and could not be independently verified.
  • Fast owner turnover on the only verified hullThe original owner sold Aurora Borealis roughly six months after delivery (Fraser Yachts announced the sale in February 2020); no public reason was given, and a fast resale on a brand-new flagship-scale build is the kind of detail a buyer researching the model would want explained.
  • Unremarkable performance for the price bracketA 17-knot top speed and displacement steel/aluminium hull are standard for this size and type but not a differentiator against comparably priced semi-custom rivals; nothing in the sourced material points to an unusual performance or efficiency advantage beyond the stated range.

Informazioni pratiche

New-build priceAggregator site Yachttrading quotes a standard-spec new-build list price of approximately EUR89 million; this is a brokerage/aggregator estimate, not a price ever published by Amels itself, and no second independent outlet corroborates the exact figure.
Hulls deliveredOnly one Amels 220 is robustly documented across the yard, class press and major yachting titles: hull 'Project Waka', delivered as Aurora Borealis in July 2019 (32 months after order, per Boat International and Fraser Yachts), and renamed Neninka after a February 2020 sale. Brokerage aggregator pages (Romeo United Yachts, Northrop and Johnson) list a second, unnamed 'hull 002' dated 2022 with specs identical to the first hull's, but no Boat International, Superyacht Times or Damen/Amels material corroborates a second delivery, and YachtBuyer's own model-year window for the '220' reads 2018-2020 (i.e. consistent with a single hull) - this second hull should be treated as unverified, possibly a duplicated listing of the same yacht under a different template.
Resale/charter evidenceAurora Borealis was sold roughly six months after her own delivery (announced by Fraser Yachts, broker Antoine Larricq, February 2020) and renamed Neninka; a since-cited asking price around EUR79.5 million surfaced in market coverage at that time. SuperYacht Fan and autoevolution have separately reported a later resale in the roughly $80-97 million range and have associated the yacht with Mexican businessman Carlos Hank Rhon, but both pages returned access errors on direct fetch, so these figures/attributions could only be confirmed via search summaries, not the full original articles - flagged as lower-confidence. No charter listing or weekly rate was found; the yacht appears to be privately held rather than offered for charter.
Running costsNot published for this specific model. Only generic industry rules of thumb exist (commonly cited as 5-10 percent of build cost annually for large Amels yachts), which are not specific to the 220 and were not sourced to any figure tied to Aurora Borealis/Neninka.
Not publishedWatermaker capacity, thruster make/power, gearbox make, exact classification certificate for the individual hull, and any confirmed second-hull delivery details are all genuinely not public in the sources checked.
