Potenza pulita, tratte lunghe
Motori e impianti
| Engines | Twin Caterpillar diesels rated in the 2,600-2,700 hp range. The exact sub-model is reported inconsistently: Romeo United Yachts and Yacht Buyer's review page cite the 3516C (2,600 hp each), Yacht Buyer's own spec page instead cites the 3516E A02 (2,682 hp / 2,000 kW each), and Yacht Harbour names only 'MTU' with no model. Amels' own site does not publish an engine make. Treat the exact sub-model as unconfirmed. |
|---|---|
| Stabilisers | Quantum stabilisers, active at anchor and underway, per Boat International's feature on the Limited Editions range. This is the yard's stated standard equipment, not independently verified hull by hull. |
| Fuel tankage | Reported as either 155,000 litres (Yacht Harbour, Romeo United Yachts, Yacht Buyer) or 183,000 litres (Superyachts.com). The lower figure has the wider agreement across independent listings. |
| Fresh water | Around 38,000-39,000 litres, consistent within that range across Romeo United Yachts, Anyships and Superyachts.com. |
| Range and speed | 5,000 nautical miles is consistent across every source checked, including the yard's own site. Top speed of 16.5 knots is also consistent everywhere. Cruise speed for that range is reported inconsistently, anywhere from 12.5 to 15 knots depending on the listing. |
| Hull and classification | Steel hull, aluminium superstructure, Lloyd's Register classification standard across the range, per the yard site, brokerages and Boat International. |
| Gearboxes, generators, thrusters, watermaker | Not disclosed with make, model or capacity by the yard or by any brokerage listing found. This is a real transparency gap versus fully custom yards, which typically publish a full technical package. |
Cosa riferiscono armatori ed equipaggi
On the appeal of the pre-engineered platform
Because we've done all the hard and time-consuming work up front, the engineering, the design work and so forth, the decisions about personalising and individualising the yacht are generally the ones that the owner enjoys the most.
Rob Luijendijk, Damen YachtingOn handing over the seventh hull, M&EM
We are delighted to be handing over this beautiful yacht to her Owners. A milestone which has been made possible thanks to the excellent collaboration between all parties involved and we look forward to following her next chapter.
Peter Dijkwel, Amels Project ManagerOn the platform's collaborative design process
Doing the design this way means that there are no egos, it's a collaboration between the owner, shipyard, designers and the top end fit-out company Metrica.

Cosa convince e cosa va valutato
Punti di forza
- Real delivery-speed advantage over full customRoughly half the engineering work is pre-completed on the proven platform before a buyer signs, cutting delivery to about two years versus the typical three to four for a fully custom yacht of similar size, per Boat International quoting Damen Yachting's Rob Luijendijk.
- On-schedule delivery track recordAmels reports delivering 10 Limited Editions projects over four years, all on schedule or early, per the same Boat International feature. This is the yard's own claimed record as relayed by the outlet, not independently audited.
- Design improves hull to hullLater hulls such as M&EM, Nome and Empress Blue benefit from fixes made on earlier ones like Plvs Vltra and New Secret, a genuine advantage of a repeat-built platform over a one-off custom design.
- Design award recognitionWon Best Interior Design, Motor Yachts 500GT and Above, at the 2022 Boat International Design and Innovation Awards.
Da valutare
- Displacement-hull speed ceilingTop speed is capped at 16.5 knots by the steel displacement hull, a real physical limitation against faster planing or semi-displacement yachts of similar size. Confirmed consistently across every spec sheet found.
- Limited engineering customizationBoat International's own semi-custom feature states plainly that full customization of hull engineering and layout is unavailable. Owners get a standardized technical platform (engines, stabilisers, HVAC) in exchange for speed and reliability; only the interior fit-out and select deck elements are genuinely bespoke.
- Resale depreciation on the only data point availableThe single confirmed resale case, Plvs Vltra, dropped from a 99,000,000 euro to an 89,900,000 euro asking price even after a 2025 refit, a roughly 9 percent cut. One data point only, not a market trend, but the class has not been shown to hold asking price without material reinvestment.
- Opaque systems specificationsEven basic drivetrain data, exact engine sub-model, generator ratings and thruster power, is not consistently published by the yard or brokerages, a real transparency gap versus how thoroughly full-custom yards typically disclose technical packages in press materials.
Informazioni pratiche
| New-build list price | Reported at roughly 102,000,000 euros for a standard-specification build, per Yacht Trading's cost commentary and repeated by Romeo United Yachts. This is a market-commentary source rather than a yard-confirmed figure, so treat it as indicative. |
|---|---|
| Resale evidence | Plvs Vltra, the first hull (delivered 2016), is currently listed at 89,900,000 euros, down from a prior 99,000,000 euro asking price, following a 2025 refit. Reported by Boat International and corroborated by Yacht Buyer. |
| Hulls delivered | At least 8 to 9 hulls delivered as of 2024, though the exact count and hull-numbering is not cleanly resolved across sources. Named hulls confirmed by two or more sources: Plvs Vltra (hull 1, 2016), New Secret (2017), Universe, later renamed Casino Royale (2018), Sixth Sense (2019), Synthesis (2021-2022), Avanti Shadow (2021), M&EM (2022), Nome (2024), and Empress Blue (sold 2021, expected delivery 2024). |
| Running costs | Not published by the yard, a brokerage or trade press for this model. The commonly cited industry rule of thumb of roughly 10 percent of build cost per year is a general estimate, not a reported figure specific to the 242. |
| Not published | The confirmed engine sub-model, generator and thruster ratings, watermaker capacity, individual contract prices, and any audited running-cost figure. |
