Motori e impianti
| Propulsion architecture | Diesel-electric hybrid concept engineered in-house by Lurssen: two main diesel engines drive controllable-pitch propellers through individual gearboxes fitted with PTI/PTO units (electric propulsion at slow speed, or generation of electrical power at higher speed), plus a separate electric azimuth pod drive that can run alone or alongside the shafts. Confirmed consistently by Boat International, SuperyachtNews.com, Yacht Harbour and CharterWorld's delivery coverage. |
|---|---|
| Main engines (reported) | Twin MTU 16-cylinder diesel-electric units, model reported as 16V 1163 M84, approx. 6,975 hp each at 1,280 rpm - figure appears in yacht-database listings (YachtCharterFleet/YachtBuyer style specs); not independently verified against a Lurssen or Boat International figure, so treat the exact model/output as reported rather than confirmed. |
| Generators | No standalone genset make/count is publicly disclosed. Public sources describe only the PTI/PTO gearbox units doubling as generation when running on diesel - Lurssen's own project page and press coverage stop short of listing dedicated generator sets. |
| Stabilisers / thrusters | Underway stabilisers and a bow thruster are reported, with dynamic-positioning capability also mentioned in yacht-database specs. Not detailed by make/type in any named editorial source. |
| Emissions / wastewater systems | State-of-the-art exhaust after-treatment system to cut NOx, noise and vibration, and a membrane-technology wastewater treatment plant producing effluent described as 'drinking-water quality' - reported identically by Boat International, SuperyachtNews.com and Yacht Harbour, indicating this is Lurssen's own press-release language repeated across outlets rather than independently verified by each. |
| Speed | Cruising speed consistently reported at 18 knots; top speed reported as 20 knots by Boat International's yacht directory and Yachtway, versus 21-21.5 knots in yacht-database aggregator listings. Sources disagree by roughly 1-1.5 knots on top speed - treat 18 kn cruise as solid, top speed as approximate. |
| Range / tankage | Range reported at approximately 5,000 nautical miles at 17 knots economical speed; fuel capacity reported around 1,080,000 litres and freshwater around 110,000 litres. These figures come from yacht-database aggregators (consistent across two independent listings) but were not corroborated by a named editorial outlet (Boat International, SuperyachtNews) when checked directly - treat as reported, not confirmed. |
Cosa riferiscono armatori ed equipaggi
Widely reported owner
Blue is widely reported - but not officially confirmed by Lurssen or the owner - to belong to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President/Deputy Prime Minister and owner of Manchester City, as a successor to his earlier yacht Topaz (now A+).
SuperYachtFanPurchase price estimate
Reported purchase price of roughly 600 million dollars (also cited as approx. 500 million pounds), with reported annual running costs around 60 million dollars.
LuxurylaunchesRepeated public sightings tied to the same owner
Blue has been photographed and reported at anchor with Sheikh Mansour aboard or associated with him at Bodrum, Marmaris and Crete over 2023-2025, consistent with the ownership reporting.
Greek City TimesOwnership attribution repeated in yacht-industry commentary
Industry commentators tracking the world's largest yachts have likewise identified Blue as delivered to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2022.

Cosa convince e cosa va valutato
Punti di forza
- Genuinely flexible hybrid propulsionThe PTI/PTO gearbox arrangement plus an independent electric azimuth pod gives Blue several distinct running modes (pure electric at slow speed, diesel-electric generation at speed, or pod-assisted), which is a real engineering step beyond a simple diesel-electric layout and is documented consistently across Lurssen's own materials and independent trade press (Boat International, SuperyachtNews.com).
- Design continuityA single studio, Terence Disdale Design, handled both exterior and interior styling - confirmed by Lurssen's own project page, Boat International, SuperyachtNews.com and SuperYachtFan - which is unusual at this scale and typically produces a more coherent overall design language.
- Genuine size credentialsAt 160/160.6 m she is consistently placed among the top five longest yachts afloat and is Lurssen's second-largest build after Azzam (180 m), a ranking repeated by Boat International, Superyachts.com and YachtCharterFleet.
Da valutare
- Public specification data is inconsistentEven flagship outlets disagree on basic figures: Boat International's own directory lists 14,785 GT while other coverage (including SuperyachtNews.com and YachtCharterFleet) cites 15,320 GT, and her world ranking is variously reported as 4th and 5th largest yacht by length/tonnage. That inconsistency in public data is itself a documented weak point for anyone trying to verify her stats precisely.
- Ownership is reported, never confirmedNo outlet has an on-the-record statement from Lurssen or the owner naming Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan; the attribution rests on industry reporting (SuperYachtFan, Luxurylaunches) and sighting reports rather than confirmation, which is a real limit on what can be stated as fact.
- Scale-vs-sustainability messaging invites scrutinyLurssen markets Blue's hybrid propulsion and 'drinking-water quality' wastewater treatment as environmental features, but the broader superyacht sector - Lurssen included, per its own sustainability page and coverage on Superyachts.com - acknowledges the industry faces greenwashing criticism when very large, high-fuel-burn vessels lead with green messaging; no outlet levels this specifically at Blue by name, but it is the documented industry-level critique her category attracts.
