Motori e impianti
| Propulsion | 4 x MTU 20V 4000 M93L diesel engines (approx. 4,300-4,400 kW / approx. 5,800 hp each) on twin screws; top speed approx. 20 knots, cruising speed approx. 15 knots. Reported consistently by Superyachts.com, H I Sutton's Covert Shores analysis, and YachtCharterFleet; note Wikipedia and Yacht Harbour instead list a 2 x MTU 20V 4000 M73L configuration - the 4-engine figure is corroborated by three independent trade sources so is used here, but the discrepancy is real and unresolved in public data. |
|---|---|
| Emissions/exhaust system | Integrated silencer plus selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust after-treatment system, claimed by builder Lurssen to cut NOx by up to 97% and reduce acoustic signature (Lurssen's own Nord project page). |
| Generators | Not publicly disclosed. No industry database or press source consulted (Boat International, Superyachts.com, Yacht Harbour, Wikipedia, H I Sutton) publishes generator make/model or output for Nord - treat as unconfirmed. |
| Stabilizers / thrusters | Not publicly documented with a named manufacturer or model. General reporting refers to Nord as fitted with stabilization and bow/stern thruster systems typical of a vessel this size, but no source names the equipment supplier. |
| Tankage / range | No fuel or water tankage figures or a specific nautical-mile range are published for Nord in any source checked; treat as unconfirmed rather than inferred from comparable Lurssen explorer yachts. |
| Ice-class / explorer credentials | Described generically as 'ice-class' by trade outlet YachtBuyer, and in July 2025 Nord was granted a rare permit by Russia's Northern Sea Route Administration (GlavSevmorput) to cruise the Chukchi Sea and approach Wrangel Island (Aug 1-Sep 30, 2025) - reported by The Moscow Times (via the Arctida monitoring channel) and Luxurylaunches. No source produces a specific classification-society ice notation, so the class rating itself remains unconfirmed even though the Arctic operating permit is well corroborated. |
| Garage / tenders / submersibles | Reported fleet of roughly 14 tenders and toys including two customized Windy SR52 Blackbird tenders, a Triton personal submarine, and an ROV, housed in a large forward tender garage/beach-club complex (H I Sutton / Covert Shores, corroborated by general trade coverage). |
| Helicopter facilities | Two helicopter landing areas (bow pad and top-deck pad), with a hangar built into the main mast structure on the top-deck pad; a helicopter registration VP-CMF has been associated with the yacht in some reporting. Exact helicopter type varies between sources, so the specific model is not treated as confirmed. |
Cosa riferiscono armatori ed equipaggi
Ownership link
Nord is widely reported in yacht-industry and financial press as linked to Russian billionaire Alexei Mordashov, principal shareholder of steelmaker Severstal.
Forbes (Giacomo Tognini)Sanctions status
Mordashov has been sanctioned by the EU, US, UK, Switzerland, Canada, Australia and Japan following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine; Nord itself has not been seized, unlike his other yacht Lady M, which Italian authorities seized in March 2022.
NBC NewsHong Kong port call and non-enforcement
Nord's October 2022 appearance in Hong Kong harbour was reported as notable because Hong Kong authorities declined to enforce Western sanctions against the vessel.
CNN (Michelle Toh)AIS transponder blackout and evasive routing
The yacht's mandatory AIS location transponder was reportedly switched off for an extended period (cited as roughly eight months, 2022-2023), and in March-April 2022 the yacht made a fast, largely unlogged run from the Seychelles to Vladivostok.
The Moscow TimesArctic operating permit
In July 2025, Russia's Northern Sea Route Administration (GlavSevmorput) granted Nord a permit to operate in the Chukchi Sea and near Wrangel Island from August 1 to September 30, 2025 - a normally restricted area for private vessels.
The Moscow Times2026 Strait of Hormuz transit
Nord was reported to have crossed the Strait of Hormuz in April 2026 after a stop in Dubai, drawing attention given the sanctions context and regional tensions at the time.

Cosa convince e cosa va valutato
Punti di forza
- Genuine expedition-yacht pedigree, not a conversionDesigned inside and out by Nuvolari Lenard as a purpose-built long-range expedition yacht rather than a converted commercial vessel, combining explorer-style proportions with Lurssen construction - a design approach repeatedly highlighted by trade press such as Boat International.
- Exceptional toy/garage capabilityA reported fleet of roughly 14 tenders and support craft - including two Windy SR52 Blackbird tenders, a Triton personal submersible, and an ROV - plus dual helicopter landing areas, one with a hangar built into the main mast, is unusually extensive even among 140m-plus yachts (H I Sutton / Covert Shores).
- Above-standard emissions engineeringLurssen's own specification materials describe an integrated silencer/SCR exhaust after-treatment system claimed to cut NOx emissions by up to 97% while reducing acoustic signature, going beyond what is typically publicized for yachts of this class.
- Rare access to protected Arctic watersThe 2025 Russian Northern Sea Route permit allowing operation in the Chukchi Sea and near Wrangel Island - normally closed to private vessels - demonstrates real operational and diplomatic reach unusual for a private yacht (The Moscow Times).
Da valutare
- Core specifications are unreliable across sourcesEven major yacht databases and press materially disagree on basic figures: gross tonnage is reported as either roughly 9,250 GT or roughly 10,150 GT, main engine count as either 2 or 4, and draft as either 5.15 m or 5.4 m - no single authoritative figure could be established for several core specs despite checking multiple industry databases.
- No public data on generators, stabilizers, thrusters, or rangeUnlike many flagship Lurssen builds, Nord has no publicly documented generator make/output, stabilizer/thruster brand, or tankage/range figures in any source consulted - a notable transparency gap for a yacht this prominent.
- Ownership entangled in sanctions evasion reportingMultiple outlets report an AIS transponder blackout of roughly eight months, a high-speed unlogged dash from the Seychelles to Vladivostok in 2022, and reflagging moves - all characterized in reporting as efforts to keep the vessel beyond the reach of Western sanctions enforcement (CNN, The Moscow Times).
- Loosely used 'ice-class' label without a documented notationTrade coverage (YachtBuyer) calls Nord 'ice-class,' but no source provides a specific classification-society ice notation, unlike Lurssen's dedicated 90m explorer yacht Ice - so the claim should be treated as a general operational description rather than a verified classification rating.
Informazioni pratiche
| Accommodation | Up to 36 guests and roughly 40-42 crew; cabin count is reported inconsistently across sources as 18, 20, or 21 - treat the guest/crew capacity as reliable and the exact cabin count as approximate. |
|---|---|
| Charter availability | Privately owned and not available for commercial charter, per all yacht-industry listings consulted (Boat International, Superyachts.com, Yacht Harbour). |
| Current registry status | As of the most recent tracking data, Nord is Russian-flagged and shown as owned/managed by Nord Wind LLC of Moscow in AIS registry records, having largely operated outside Western-controlled ports and waters since 2022. |
