Black Pearl

Gestire in sicurezza tre alberi rotanti e una superficie velica molto grande significa automazione pesante, perché nessun equipaggio potrebbe reggere questi carichi a mano.

Navigare quasi in silenzio

Motori e impianti

DynaRig mastsThree free-standing, rotating 70.6m carbon-fibre masts (the largest DynaRig ever built), each carrying curved yards; the full 2,900 sq m of sail sets or furls in about seven minutes with minimal crew (Boat International, Dykstra Naval Architects).
PropulsionTwo MTU 12V2000M72 diesel engines (roughly 1,080kW each) driving controllable-pitch propellers through electric propulsion motors (2x400kW); top speed under power alone is 17.5 knots (Boat International, Motor Boat & Yachting).
Regenerative sailingThe controllable-pitch propellers spin as generators while under sail, feeding battery banks that cut generator use without burning fuel. On a reported 2023 Atlantic crossing (5,600nm, 20.5 days) she sailed over 80% of the distance and burned 32,000 litres total, against an estimated ~10,000 litres/day for a comparable 100m motor yacht (Boat International).
Speed under sail - builder claim vs. recorded figuresOceanco's own delivery-era figure was 'up to 30 knots under sail in optimal conditions' (Boat International, Motor Boat & Yachting, 2018). Two later, independent figures roughly agree with each other and are lower: IYC's charter listing gives a recorded maximum of 24.3 knots, and Robb Report reports 24.5 knots in post-warranty sea trials.
Tender and toy garagePascoe Limo tender (10.4m), Pascoe Beachlander tender (9.8m), Williams open tender (5.65m), plus SUPs, kayaks, jet skis, wakeboards, water skis and snorkelling gear (IYC). Fold-down bulwarks give touch-and-go helipad capability (Boat International).
Stabilisers, tankage, dedicated generatorsNot publicly published - Boat International's own Superyacht Directory entry leaves these fields blank, and no other source reviewed publishes them.

Cosa convince e cosa va valutato

Punti di forza

  • The largest and most technically ambitious DynaRig ever builtThree 70.6m rotating carbon masts setting 2,900 sq m of sail, deployable in about seven minutes with minimal crew, recognised with Boat International's 2019 Design & Innovation Award for Best Naval Architecture (Sailing Yachts).
  • The efficiency claim has been demonstrated on a real crossing, not just marketedA reported 2023 transatlantic passage burned roughly a sixth of the fuel a similarly sized motor yacht would need over the same distance, sailing more than 80% of the way.

Da valutare

  • The headline top speed is the builder's optimal-conditions figure, not the recorded oneOceanco's '30 knots under sail' figure is well above figures reported independently since: 24.3 knots in IYC's charter listing and 24.5 knots in Robb Report's account of post-warranty sea trials.
  • Running her is crew-intensive despite the push-button rigCaptain Chris Gartner named cleaning and crew coordination as the biggest day-to-day challenges, and rig maintenance puts crew aloft up to 72 metres - a real operational cost behind the automation headline.

Informazioni pratiche

Weekly charter rateFrom EUR 850,000 per week plus expenses (IYC; Boat International's charter review cites the same base, with peak Mediterranean summer weeks reported by brokers up to roughly EUR 950,000-1,200,000).
Guest capacity12 guests, crew of 27 (Boat International's Superyacht Directory and IYC). Cabin count is reported inconsistently across sources - 6 vs 7 staterooms - so treat the exact number as unconfirmed.
Build costNo figure has ever been confirmed by Oceanco. Press estimates range from roughly $200 million (SuperYachtFan) to EUR250-400 million once DynaRig development cost is folded in - outside estimates, not a builder-published price.
What is not publicly publishedStabiliser make and type, fuel and water tankage, and dedicated hotel-generator specifications appear in none of the sources reviewed, including Boat International's own technical directory entry.
Ownership status a buyer or charterer should checkOwner Oleg Burlakov died in 2021; later Monaco court reporting describes an ongoing succession/estate dispute naming Black Pearl among the contested assets - current title and long-term charter continuity should be independently verified rather than assumed settled.
