L'étrave sportive presque verticale d'Omega

Captain calls Rio the embodiment of the modern superyacht
Rio's captain, David Kirkbride, told Dockwalk that Rio is light, bright and fun, with a cheerful palette that suits her name, and praised how she handles at sea and maneuvers in port, while noting that at this size the bridge team has to think six steps ahead instead of five compared with a smaller yacht. This is a captain's account relayed to a trade publication, not the owner speaking directly.
David Kirkbride, via DockwalkEvery space aboard gets used by the family
Kirkbride said there is not one area on board that does not get used, citing the owner's Jacuzzis and the beach club, which the children have taken over as their evening spot, and described the owners as fun clients whose chemistry with the crew clicked straight away.
David Kirkbride, via DockwalkRio was commissioned by a former charter client wanting a fun family boat
Per Northrop and Johnson's own charter-marketing account, the owner was a long-standing charter client who wanted to buy a boat of 60 to 65 metres and asked for large, bright indoor and outdoor living areas for a cruising experience shared with his family.

Points forts
- Won Best Naval Architecture, Displacement Motor Yachts at the 2023 BOAT International Design and Innovation AwardsThe jury cited 14 bow shapes run through computational flow and resistance analysis at 12, 14 and 16 knots plus stabiliser-fin flow studies, and praised a stern refined to keep the beach deck dry even at top speed - a judged engineering result, not a marketing claim.
- Notably fuel-efficient for a 62m yachtThe award jury's own figures put consumption at just 180 to 200 litres per hour at 10 knots, an efficiency outcome tied directly to the hull-optimisation work that won the naval architecture award.
- Full owner's deck on a 62m hullExterior designer Frank Laupman of Omega Architects noted Rio has a full owner's deck, unusual at this length, giving the owner a private lounge, spa pool and a 180-degree-view suite rather than sharing the deck with other functions.
Points de vigilance
- Modest speed for her sizeTop speed is only 15 knots and cruising speed 12 knots from twin Caterpillar 3512C engines at 1,230kW each - the direct trade-off for the efficiency-optimised hull that won her naval architecture award, and a real limitation for a buyer who wants speed.
- Exterior design was a finalist, not a winner, despite how brokers sometimes frame itBOAT International's own 2023 finalists list shows Rio as a finalist in Outstanding Exterior Motor Yachts, 60m and above; the award she actually won was Best Naval Architecture. Several secondary listings blur this into having also won for exterior design, which BOAT International's own award pages do not support.
- Interior was reworked on a compressed six-month timelineThe original neutral interior scheme was reimagined for the eventual owner; interior designer Gabriele Piacenti said there were only six months to update the interior before delivery, with only the walls and ceiling left unchanged, while CRN's project manager separately cited pandemic-era supply-chain disruption as a real challenge during the build.
- No independent sea trial or technical review existsThe only sea-trial coverage found is a yard-sourced announcement confirming speed figures, with no independent technical inspection or press sea trial to verify performance claims.
- Back on the brokerage market after roughly three yearsDelivered in May 2022, Rio was listed for sale via TWW Yachts at EUR 53,000,000 as of September 2025 - a relatively short hold for a custom-built, owner-specific yacht, with no source disclosing why.
